Interesting Collins evaluation

I re-watched the game last night and La'el and Tyron had good games in the pass blocking department. It took me about 3 hours to watch it even though I didn't watch not one commercial. I rewound just about every play to see who was doing what. They are not the problem. The problem is in the middle as we all know. On both sides of the ball too. Just about every player on the defensive side of the ball was burned a time or two. SF does have some deceiving run play, I'll give them that. Way more creative than us. I seen several times where the RB follows #44 in between the guards and center, with LVE and Parsons falling for it, then all of sudden they both curl to the left or right (mostly to the left) and goes to the outside for big chunks. I don't think you can do that if you're getting pressure up the middle and for the most part we wasn't doing that.

Maybe I don't know what I'm talking about but it seems to me that Tyron, La'el and Zach are good pass blockers but too slow to run block. Connor and Tyler are good run blockers, because they are smaller and quicker, but they can't hold up in pass blocking. Time and time again the pocket was a mess. I think it was that INT, Dak got hit on the left shoulder right when he threw it.

Connor looked to be crying at the end because he knows he's going to be a back up next year for another team. I'm okay with him being a back up here long as he doesn't get a raise in salary. We have O-line problems for sure. Some can run block but the other's cant, some can pass block but the others can't. With what looks to be a tougher schedule next season and with all the FAs and with not much money to work with, our draft better be an A+ by experts or it might be a long season.

The problem is Zeke and our run plays. Why was Mitchell goin 4 yards without getting touched. Zeke is terrible he doesn’t know what hole to go in or when to cut back.

Zeke and Pollard would have done good behind SF's line.

I think we draft and get a vet who can backup guard and Center like Looney could.

At pick 24 and this draft being heavy with OL talent, not tackle. We can get 1 or 2 top caliber olineman in the first 3 rounds. That goes for guard and center. A good vet is going to be too costly and the ones out there are aged like the top 3 players we have on the line.

I'm fine with that. I was unhappy last year when we passed on Creed Humphrey.

When a run game struggles it doesn't mean all 5 OL sucked.

The problem you run into is you have a TB that is a between the tackle runner now and you have a LG and C that simply aren't very good. That's going to kill any sustainable run game.
They’ve all underperformed. In fact, they’ve gotten dominated too often. That is when they’re not false starting or holding.

It’s difficult when there is NO hole and when you’re getting hit in the backfield.

Our highly graded line sure looked overmatched vs the 9ers. Does Dak just hold the ball too long or something?

Connors problem is penalties. He graded out well otherwise. BUT, he lead the league in total penalties (17) and holding calls (11).

Martin was an All Pro. But according to your logic, he wasn't very good because the run game wasn't very good.

He’s the lone bright spot but even he didn’t play as well as in past years. Maybe it’s because he didn’t have much help.

You have to be able to run the ball. You can't run the ball when your rb is nursing a torn PCL and refuses to get out of the way and let Pollard carry the run game.

Terrence Steele can play RT. Only 1 better bargain at RT in the league that I know we have a shot at utilizing. Gets our best 5 on.

Especially if Collins can shore up the LG position for the next 2 years. Then we’re just working on Center and starting to draft/develop the future of the oline as it is now aged.

I think with the cheap asset you have with Steele you have to make him your RT. Collins can slide inside and as you said that shores that up. Hopefully Bell can be the swing now. Tyron will get hurt some time. We definitely need a new Center

that doesn’t explain the 5 sacks

Yes it does. Rushing the passer is a lot easier when the run game poses no threat. You stop pass rushers by running the ball at them. SF just gave us a clinic in that regard. They ran the ball at Randy Gregory all day with great success.

So it’s Zeke’s fault we gave up 5 sacks? Whatever you say bro.

There was no running room, gave up a sack that killed a drive against bosa, holding call that killed another drive, and a false start.

Collins didn't give up the sack that Bosa got - it was on Martin for not picking up a twist.

we need him.
after he came back...he got better each game.
he's a good'n we need to hang on to.
im not trading him, creating another hole to fill.

No doubt. But he gives up sacks too. The play right before the INT, he gives up a huge sack. He got beat BAD on that play. He was responsible for 2 sacks. As Romo said, Tyron has given up only 3 in his career. Which is hard to believe and I don't, but he did say that.

He just can’t cut with a torn PCL, so he can’t lure the defender to shoot the wrong gap.

Yet we played him, not only in this game, but the whole 2nd half of the season.
It was a dumb dumb move to do so. Ego doesn't win football games. Pollard should have been the featured back instead of the complimentary back. When a RB loses his speed and cutting ability, they become a liability. Zeke needs to get his knee fixed, then drop about 12 lbs while training hard to attempt to recapture some of his lost skills. It's sad. I'm a huge Zeke fan, I desperately want him to do well but it's obvious he has lost 2 steps.
