Guys who I think will be cut

I’m not sure that I can say this with all the rules on this forum, but I think Cooper not getting vaccinated after getting $20 million really ticked off Jerry. He wasn’t available for a game because of that. The thing that sucks, is the money you save by cutting Cooper doesn’t really make this team better. You lose a great WR and won’t use the money to sign any big name FA’s anyway, so what’s the point?
There isn’t any metric that shows that Cooper is great. He isn’t remotely great.

i wouldn’t be surprised if Tyron retires. if Kellen stays, trade cooper. bc we don’t know how to use him anyways.

I've never said something dumb like this before, but I'm still fuming since last Sunday:

I wished we'd just blow this whole franchise up. Get a GM, blow-up the roster/coaching staff, everything. Go 3-14 for the next couple of years, no cheerleaders, no Rowdy, turn off the big screen in the statdium. Mothball the stadium at "tHa sTaR". In fact, rename that facility "The Building". All practices are outside. No more training Camps at comfortable Oxnard. We're doing it in Siberia or in the Sahara (we'll alternate...keep 'em on their toes). Kill any entitlement for anyone involved. Basically, we need a a indoctrination period like you have in a bootcamp. Break it down before you can build it the right mold.

Then and only then can we have a proper rebirth. Change the uniform colors. Change the helmet graphics. No more with the tradition crap until they get back to winning superbowls. In short, "This town needs an enema!"

So anyway, yeah....cut everyone that's overpaid, not with the program. If you have a side-business...you're gone, too. 100% focus on winning.

Here's the problem.

Lawrence is your best DE. You cut or trade him, what are your options? You will have an anemic pass rush/defensive end play in 2023.

You make the 3-4 look your base. Parsons and Gregory as OLBs' and draft some interior LBS. Parsons should be fulltime OLB and the DEF built around him at this position

I don’t think you can cut Tyron when he’s still a top 10 player at his position. Yes health is an issue but if daks window is three years you keep tryron for at least another.

As for dlaw you can’t cut him if your not bringing back Gregory. People underestimate Lawrence run d as well. He may not be worth the contract but he’s still a very good player

Not even close.

Gallup should be fine as ACLs aren't death sentences. So if you cut Cooper, bring back Gallup and Wilson and maybe add a cheap solid vet, you should have more than enough at WR.
Odell is the most recent guy and he darn sure lost a step

Where are examples of him playing like crap?
33 players had more receiving yards than Cooper. In relation to his salary and what should be expected he has played like crap. You can’t justify this guy being 1of the highest paid players at his position. It’s insane.

We are not going to cut key contributors and blow up the team. Maybe they should, that is up for debate (I don’t think they should personally), but they won’t. The only one I could see leaving is Amari and not because we cut him but because he wants to leave potentially (I also don’t think that is likely but there seem to be some rumblings of discontent).

How do you justify paying 20 millions n to Amari Cooper. That is insane. He should absolutely be gone.

Who are we getting to replace him? Where are we going to spend that money instead? Sadly he is still our best receiver despite the mediocre year. Lamb is just not it and Gallup and Wilson are complementary players, not the star of the show. If there is a good plan to replace Amari then I’m all for it. But unless you are blowing the team up, there is no point in cutting him. Do you see the Jones’ blowing the team up? I don’t.

IMO we all overrate Gallup….he doesn’t get open…that’s why he’s good at contested catches, he has to be. Amari’s contract sucks…as does several others on the team but if you paired Amari with Brady or Rodgers, he’d probably have 1500 yards

Smith will 100% be back. Lawrence is a toss up. The other two are gone 100%

You can only have 2 players designated as June 1st cuts, not sure exactly how it works but Jaylen Smith already counts as 6.8 million against next years cap. Exactly how much dead money would you be satisfied with. Exactly how are you going to replace these players? Signing Cooper to then release him after two seasons seems like basic reasoning skills of a potato level roster management. Lawrence is still by far you’re best DE. They restructured Tyron coming off neck surgery last year and are now going to release him because of an easily correctable bone spur??? Zuerlein, yeah I’ll agree, dead money will only be about 300k… say hello to your rookie kicker(s). Brown and Jarwin are also options along with trading Collins… his BASE jumps from 1.6m to 10m next season, his replacement is already on the team and with his brain dead 5 game suspension he’s missed around 7 more games during his career than Tyron in 4 less seasons!

Jaylon was a June 1 cut for last season.

You can designate two guys June 1 cuts PRIOR to June 1. You can cut anyone you want after June 1.

They probably would add some more bargain basement type FA and a pick or two.

They do this sort of thing all the time.

Sorry...27 million is for an Elite player...not a guy good against the run and a good pressure rate. ELITE at both yes...

So cut Lawrence, sign low level FAs.

You realize we will then have one of the worst DE rotations in the league right?

You’d need a new DC but if Quinn gets hired somewhere you could try it.

Cut D-Law: resign Randy Gregory & Dorance Armstrong Jr.. Already have Tarell Basham and Chauncey Golston signed. Could bring in a free agent on a cheap 1-2 year deal.

Trade or cut Amari Cooper: use the $16 million savings to resign Michael Gallup (should be much cheaper to keep due to injury riddled 2021 season and very low stats because of it). Try to resign Cedrick Wilson and/or Noah Brown on team friendly deals. Introduce Nathan Vasher and some practice WRs while possibly drafting another WR in mid rounds.

Time to cut Tyron Smith: start Terence Steele in his place. Redo La'el Collins' contract to create more cap space. Try to resign Ty Nsekhe on another cheap 1 year deal if he is still willing to play at his age (36). Time to give Josh Ball some play time. Also, move Isaac Alarcón to Tackle which was his natural position when playing in the Mexican collegiate leagues. Possibly use a 3rd or 4th round pick on another O-Tackle.

Cut unreliable Greg Zuerlein: use a late round pick to draft a Kicker. Bring in another veteran Kicker to compete in Training Camp.

All 4 players suggested cuts or trades above ^^^ saves the team money and creates cap space to sign other players on cheaper deals. Time to cut overpaid/underproducing old (and injured) veteran players.
