If you have the capital and reaources yeah. But for us known of the stock we invested in the OL is paying off. They might be able to move some guys around next year along with a draft pick and do something.

Must be a lot of Zombies stumbling around on Cowboys Zone!
A lot on here always talking about this is a top 5 O line. Crazy !
Zombie life never ends well.
TFreds exit marked the end of a very short era of dominant play, I believe Collins game would have elevated had T-Fred remained.
Its been a steady decline since his early departure.

After their shoddy OL lost them a super bowl, the chiefs decided to fix the OL and did it in one offseason.

Signed a high end guard (Thuney)
Traded first for a LT (Brown)
Used 2nd on a center (Humphrey)
Used 3rd on a guard (Smith)

just like that’s weakness was turned into a strength and will be for the next 3-4 years. This is the type of front office work the cowboys are incapable of doing.

exactly. Just commit to it. Drives me nuts when fans say things like it takes 3-4 years to fix a position group. Maybe in 1975 it did.

yes exactly but we have a GM who overpays his underperforming , overrated stars : zeke, Dlaw, dak and others. there is not enough cap space to make such moves. it has been a desease that jerry cannot get away from.

Signed a high end guard (Thuney).......We don't have that kind of money
Traded first for a LT (Brown)........Who is out there?????
Used 2nd on a center (Humphrey)......There isn't a 2nd round pick of that caliber center in draft.
Used 3rd on a guard (Smith)...They got lucky...Hit on a 6th round pick...Smith fell because of a blood disorder.

We won't sign a high-end guard (costs more than the Joneses will be willing to spend).
We won't trade a first for a lineman (Joneses haven't shown any past willingness to trade firsts for anything other than skill positions.)
We might use a 2nd on a center.
We might use a 3rd on a guard. I think that would be the most probable move, but we could even use a first on a guard since we're losing Williams if we don't believe McGovern can replace him and don't want to move Collins.

You do not have to do that much to this OL. Resign your LG make him your LT (he has played out of position his entire career), make your RT your LG his original position, put your Swing T back at RT (who beat out your RT while he was suspended), and your problems are solved without drafting anyone.

But Jerry Dumbo GM will probably waste a 1st or 2nd round pick need on defense for a WR or a C. I regress maybe Will McClay can keep him in check as he has done since the Frederick fiasco.

Well, to be fair, they did draft Frederick, Martin, T. Smith and Collins, and the o-line was one of the best a few years ago. However, more recently, it has taken a downward turn. Perhaps the Jones' can once again invest in obtaining some great o-lineman.
It takes 1st rounders. The inability of this franchise to evaluate talent jumps up to bite us in the rear again.

The Chiefs are a great example cause they went through a similar issue earlier in the season how teams played them. Once they started running the football, the passing game started to open up again. It's pick your poison.
I honestly think we gave it a try....

But the center and TE were routinely getting beat in the run game.

Really....if you have time and/or are so inclined, go back and check it out.

Not directed at you, just in general around here.....when you try to run and repeatedly get between minus one and plus two, there's only so much running you can do.

Niners knew a fast start would take us out of our game, and I'm still begging for all those who think Schultz is a good player to watch the first series of the SF game and give me a review.

Yeah we just weren't ready for him to be done. He had an opportunity to be one of the greats. It was just a tough break. Looney filled in admirably and then it went to crap.

Agree, the whole line has to be good as a unit. Center, LG and TE needs to be upgraded. Question is can we do that in 1 off-season?

They draft a center who arguably should have been all pro as a rookie. We draft a guy 2 years ago at C who shouldn't even be on the field, though we keep trotting him out there.

They take an injury risk player in the 6th round, he plays at a pro bowl level. Jones takes his injury gambles in the 2nd round on cripples who don't belong in the league.

The Chiefs didn't provide any blueprint. They're an elite organization that mostly makes good moves. The Cowboys are an 0-26 clown show.

The Cowboys of the 90s only had one 1st rounder. The rest were 3rd or later round picks; some even undrafted. Their key was their Oline Coach.

Cowboys keep using costly 1st round picks on Olinemen. How has that worked out over the years, plus against the salary cap?

Get a much better Oline Coach who knows how to improve this Oline.

man he dropped to the 6th round? Did he get hurt at Tennessee?

not sure, I don’t follow Tennessee but if you look at the 2017 class Trey Smith is #1

But that class overall it looks like a lot of the top guys didn’t produce. Isaiah Wilson was #2 and is out of the NFL, but was a first round pick. Jaelan Phillips was #3 and was another first round pick. Marvin Williams was #4 and went undrafted. Dylan Moses was #5 and was also undrafted.

I have been incredibly harsh of Dak and the OL this year, and I'm not wrong. I will hold off totally hating on them until our drat and see if we fill the obvious need we have there. I get we had to focus on our D the last couple of years, which we did. It is crystal clear our OL is where our D has been in past, so let's hope front office gets it.
