Hey fans, we often complain about problems on this team, these problems seem to haunt us every season. The excessive penalties we commit during games is horrendous and needs to be fixed.

My question is HOW do you fix this? With contracts and owners who may put pressure on coaches not to discipline, how do we fix such a problem?

In order to have a successful 2022 season, someone has to say enough is enough, I don't care who it is_________ can happen to you!! Please give your thoughts.....

Dallas lead the NFL in penalties this past season, 1 season, however they have not lead the NFL every year, they are pretty much middle of the pack in terms of penalties.

Fine line. See Connor Williams. Got benched for penalties but was his backup good enough or were we better off rolling with the penalties? Not a simple black and white answer and the contingency plan means a lot.

People say penalties are about discipline and I agree when they are presnap. All the other penalties however are caused when you’re just not good enough and you cheat. Connor Williams wasn’t good enough.

There is not much accountability on the team.
It's part of our dysfunctional culture.
It's all about entertainment, not winning.

If by 'hold accountable' and 'discipline' you mean with fines or some such, you would have to have a system in place for discerning between poor technique, being unlucky or bad officiating. Hard to do. Bottom line, coaches have to coach correct techniques and players have to execute.

I agree we did that to Williams, but what about a Smith, or a Brown playing QB that is making several million dollars

You have to play the best player and sometimes shuffling positions around can add a real big problem with continuity.
But FFS, this the O-line killed WAY too many drives. Those chunk plays that got brought back were huge! It's one thing to stay with a player because you have no options, it's another to "try your guy" another season.

Problem is this isnt a specific player or even position group committing penalties. This is all over the place. It's also poor clock management, not knowing to give the ball to the refs after a QB draw with seconds left, etc.

When people talk about a cultural issue I think this is what the result of that is. Especially when you have a a coaching staff with a DC that is running with their group, a OC that is leading their group, and a vet ST coach that oversees their group the HC is essentially responsible for managing players and culture.

I'm even a guy who has backed MM and still does. It's clear thought that he failed in this area, and ill put more blame on him than the players. Its a cultural thing....its a preparation thing.

Agreed, fines to me don't hurt hard enough, I wish we could make them miss a drive etc or whatever, but they're still getting paid so it's there's really no way around it

Coaching, coaching, coaching....

Blurb about Jimmy.s style: "Other coaches preach one set of rules for all, but he treats every player differently. If you're Leon Lett and you bungle an assignment, you get a pat on the fanny and you keep your job. If you're John Roper and you fall asleep in a meeting, it's your last meeting because you're a dog."

I'm a racehorse,' Johnson said. ``Tom Landry was perseverance, longevity. I'm not interested in history or going to the White House. Mini-camp isn't far off. When I came here in 1989, the Cowboys were three laps behind in a four-lap race."

……and if you add the fantom and subjective penalties it’s hard to beat good teams. Roughing the passer, taunting, targeting, etc can be be purely subjective and it’s odd that 95% of us know that when these situations arise the Cowboys will predominantly found to be in the wrong…….the other 5% can donate money to the Referees Retirement Fund.

That's fine but the penalties at bad moments during games, it's like nobody cares

Just like other teams. This notions we are special is a crook, we are no different that any other team out there. This past season I think penalties were way up but the notion no one cares? That is fan talk
