Apparently this isnt the first TE we have spoken with either. Say goodbye to Dalton. Cant say I will miss him. We need someone that can block and catch.

Love the kid, love the prospect and potential.

But like Schultz, lacks blocking and power of attack.

I can't take him in the 2nd unless we have a solid free agency and bring guys back.
unlike Schultz hed be cheaper lol having 12mil to spend elsewhere.

we dont know Mckeon could take the next step.

point most of these TE post keep missing is Schultz might be solid but hes totally replaceable. hes an easy to see cap casualty.

Supposedly it's a deep TE draft.

So, a 3rd/4th round guy may be similar to a 2nd in this draft.

Although the words 'second round' and TE is probably a bit of a sad subject around here.

Wasn't so long ago we didn't know if Schultz could replace Jarwin.

It's not that difficult to miss blocks then happen to be standing there as a dump off option....which our QB loves when playing to not get hurt.

Catch stats are extremely overrated.

Schultz has no where near the RAC ability of the elite TE in the league.

12 million?? I wouldn't pay him 5. Don't want him.

Rather let someone else make the mistake and grab the 4th round comp pick.

meh... Schultz has been really quietly good for us. I am in 0 hurry 2 replace him with a rookie. Look at the Mighty Kyle pitts last year. Folks wanted us 2 draft him in rd 1. Instead of Micah. I'm hearing this TE group isnt very great.

that's my point. like Schultz, McKeon could take the next step and replace Schultz..,but yes drafting one early could be a plan..BPA at 24 could be OL, TE, DL, or LB we could use a stud at either position. you take the best player OF NEED..

you dont pay solid 12mil..sorry that mistake we cant afford up against the cap.

BTW Pitts had slow start but finished strong, while a bit overrated, he looks like a future PB player.not top 5 guy like most crazy trade's rumors had teams trading the farm for, but he played very well down the stretch.

The TE class is deep. It's just not very top heavy (Pitts, Hockenson, Fant etc.). But it is quietly deep with guys like Ruckert, McBride, Likely, Turner, Ferguson etc. I am not wasting a pick until at least the 3rd.

Dean/Lloyd/Green in Round One
OL/DL in Round Two
BPA there on out

LOL. The situation you are comparing is apples to bowling balls. Pitts went to one of the worst situations in football and still had a very good rookie campaign. Schultz costed us drives with his inability to block. Literally.

Exactly.

McKeon stepping in for Schultz isn't any more far fetched than Schultz stepping in for Jarwin....who is still here on not a rookie deal btw.

I fear they offer Schultz big money based on dump off catch stats, but I don't really sweat it because I know they arent gonna pass on the comp pick...plus that cap thing lol.

Just throwing this out there.....

A guy we were reportedly high on two drafts ago...

Devin Asiasi.

Hasn't worked out in NE at all, and I'm really surprised at that given his character.

Wonder if anyone else knows why they picked him and Dalton Keene in the 4th round then went out and signed not one, but two big money TE the following off season.

Can this guy not play or just in the wrong situation?

I'd take Wydermeyer in the 2nd for sure, and maybe at the end of the 1st. BS on blocking issues. Maybe on motivation issues, but not on his ability to block. I have watched him for several years, and just HOPED Dallas had a shot at him.

He is a very good pass catching TE with great mobility. He can block, and will.

and a rookie will be better? Not sold.

100%

Although, I’d be willing to pay Schultz $7-8M per year. That said, the way we use tight end is more of an outlet rather than a featured position. If we continue with the same modus operandi then we could easily plug-in a mid-rounder and be successful.

It is for me!

While I agree with your overall point about not overpaying Schultz, I’ve never been a fan of minimizing players who we know are about to leave so we can ‘feel better’ about their loss.

Agreed, and plenty fall into that category....I just don't want him at any salary.

I think guys with his skillset are easy to find
