Jimmy wasn’t fired he and Jerry mutually agreed to part ways. Refer to the video in this thread if you can find it.
It is just silly and naive to try and argue that Jones did not push Johnson out. Jones was actively talking to other coaches about the job. He was making unflattering comment about Johnson. Johnson would not take that like the current coach will. He had pride and dignity and he knew that Jones was a fool. Johnson left and Jones it to blame!!!

If you’re the owner/GM and have a HC who just took you’re franchise from 1-15 to back to back championships it’s your job to do everything possible to retain him including checking your ego at the door.

I don’t believe Jerry pushed him out their egos clashed. Jerry didn’t start talking about other coaches until Jimmy started bringing up coaching the new Jacksonville franchise and moving back to Florida. Jimmy never stayed longer than five years anywhere he coached. Jerry said Jimmy wanted more control. Both wanted most of the credit for the teams success. Jerry took credit for a trade Jimmy made and this pissed him off. Jerry brought a prince into the locker room immediately after a game before Jimmy had a chance to address the players and that pissed him off. It all came to a head and they finally decided to part ways. Success drove them apart and both were to blame. It was an ego clash.

Jimmy was looking for a bigger piece of the pie after those back to back Super Bowl wins. He started bringing up coaching the Jacksonville franchise and moving back to Florida. This all started during the Cowboys Super Bowl run in 93. He was rocking the boat to try and gain more control. Jerry said he heard it on the radio and the back of his neck turned red. This is what prompted Jerry to make some of the comments he made. Both men were at fault it was a classic clash of two huge egos. Even Barry Switzer commented to Jerry how could he and Jimmy F this up. Anyone who thinks the breakup was entirely Jerry’s fault is being naïve.

Jimmy is always going to be looked at as the good guy and Jerry is always going to be looked at as the bad guy. Cowboys Nation loves Jimmy but he’s a very headstrong individual with a huge ego just like Jerry. Jimmy didn’t like Jerry standing above him. Jerry didn’t like Jimmy getting all the credit for the teams success. Push came to shove! If Jerry thought it was entirely his fault that Jimmy wanted out he would be in the ROH. He’s not in the ROH because Jerry is still bitter about Jimmy’s part in it.

It wasn’t enough for Jethro to get credit for bringing in the right HC winning back to back championships. He wanted credit for being a football guy too.

Jethro is only interested winning his way being the face of his franchise. And why he’s the biggest obstacle to overcome in Cowboys Football.

Jimmy was a winning NFL coach. He knew what he was doing. He did not appreciate a mouthy meddling owner who was a fool thinking he knew what he was doing. Jimmy had pride and dignity. He walked away and left Jerry Jones to make a fool of himself once the team Johnson put together aged out.

No other owner in the history of the NFL ever needed as much or more credit than their back to back championship HC.

You cater to your championship HC egos not buck heads with it.

Egos clashing at any level isn’t good, but reality says, good or bad, the owner gets his way in most case scenarios. In a team game, credit and blame belongs to everyone.

Wherever the buck stops ultimately gets credit or blame.

How do you clash with a back to back Championship HC?

Well, I agree that Jerry Jones has an oversize ego. You get the feeling that in addition to being owner and GM that he would like to be HC and starting QB. I believe he thinks of himself is "Mr Cowboy." Truth is he is a failure .....a brutal failure....football wise these past 25 odd years.

Jones revisionist history.

When you are paid the remainder of your contract and have to sit until it expires, you were fired as a Head Coach. Jimmy Johnson was still hiring assistants and scouts (see Tom Ciskowski and Mike Zimmer).

When Jimmy was fired he went to his parents and said "he took my team away". That is not a mutual agreement.

You say tomatoes and I say tomatoes. When you make someone quit on a contract and pay them off the remainder of the contract to leave, you fired them.

Jerry wanted to be involved in roster decisions and tried to change Jimmy’s contract. Johnson wanted no part of it. Rightfully so because it’s been a complete mess ever since. With Jerry fully calling the shots since 94, we’ve witnessed some of the most horrendous decisions possible for close to 3 decades. He’s a clown. There was nothing mutual about Jimmy leaving.

Egos clash, two way street, two sides to every story, it takes two to tango, blah blah blah…

But people will ignore logic, believe what they want, and argue for it all day, right or wrong. Blame and credit all around is the only logical, factual thing.
