Feb 25th 1989 I still so vividly recall watching on WFAA local Channel 8. The day everything changed in Cowboys history.

“In the last three decades the Cowboys have returned to the top of the National Football League as the shiniest star of the bunch for marketing purposes. Early on in Jerry’s ownership, they also returned to the top of the league from a competition standpoint as they won three Super Bowls in the first seven years, but ever since then things have been tough sledding.

There is no denying the financial impact that Jerry Jones has had on the Dallas Cowboys, surrounding DFW areas, and even the NFL as a whole. He is in the Pro Football Hall of Fame as an owner. His work on issues outside of the field helped him get there, like the influence he had in returning the league to Los Angeles where the hometown Rams just won the Super Bowl. The Rams played that game in the very palace that was built for them, one that was no doubt inspired by Jerry’s luxurious AT&T Stadium.

All of that is great and notable and makes for interesting books and documentaries. Unfortunately, the thing that matters to most fans is the success of the team on the field, and everything else has started to become frustrating as the team hasn’t appeared in a conference championship game in 26 years.

Think about that. The first seven years with Jerry at the helm as owner, general manager, and president were tons of success. But in the 26 years since, 79% of Jerry’s ownership, have been frustration, drama, and some success, but more of the first two.“

Broncos probably wouldn’t trade their last 33 years (Jerry era) for yours

3 rings, 5 SB appearances, 7 Championship game appearances (8?), 20+ playoff wins
You got the the 3 rings right
Not sure where you got the rest

3 SB appearances
4 Champ game appearances
15 playoff wins

Broncos were in the 1989 season and 2013 season Super Bowls won by the 9ers and Seahawks

Broncos made the 1989 season AFCCG because they were in that Super Bowl (that was played in 1990)

They made the 2013 season AFCCG because they were in that Super Bowl, also made the 2005 season AFCCG started by Jake Plummer. They were also in the 1991 season AFCCG.

I got the rest from the fact I know stuff. Also probably underestimated their playoff wins in that span, looks like way over 20.

I’m sure there are others. But the other majority of the league would

I would go Rams as well. Yes you win rings 3 to 2, but they’ve made more SBs in that time, and are number 1 contender for next 5 or so years as long as Stafford stays healthy

Was there anyone else bidding for the Boys?

That would be the question. Bum Bright was a POS. Really was a BUM.

We have become what the Raiders were those last ten years Al Davis was alive.

a joke.

Those continually defending Jerry by referring to what happened almost 30 years ago are MORONS. It is very clear that virtually all that success was due to Jimmy. If Jerry really was doing anything other than signing checks he sure hasn't been worth much since.

The most telling quote from this article: “The first seven years with Jerry at the helm as owner, general manager, and president were tons of success. But in the 26 years since, 79% of Jerry’s ownership, have been frustration, drama, and some success, but more of the first two.“

Considering we do not know what another owner would have done, would they have hired Johnson and agreed to trade the franchise? Would they have been under the gun and taken drastic measures to turn it around and get it out of the red?

Those 3 rings came with a price but who knows if they're still stuck on 2 if not for Booger buying the team and hiring Johnson? They're relationship going back to the mid 60's gave Booger the comfort level to turn the team over to Jimmy while he dealt with more pressing matters like not going the way that Bum Bright did.

Because we've had Booger for so long and this 26 years thing hangs around, we really do overstate it. He is not the worst GM and the Cowboys could have done worse, many other teams have and continue to do so.

The Cowboys were the first to win 3 in a 4 year span and still only 1 of 2 teams to do that. Prior to that, they'd won 2 in a 6 year span and it was 16 years between the 2nd and 3rd. With all of the hoopla surrounding the Dallas Cowboys, that 90's team is still the only one that can be entered in the best ever contest.

As fans, we feasted and thought that's the way we'd eat forever but it would have been better to have spaced out those 3 wins every 9 years and we might not have this 26 year thing that haunts this forum.
