I blame Dak and KM for Coop getting like 4-5 targets a game. Coop is easily a top 3 rout runner and he's always open. Makes me scratch my head when he isn't hit on time in stride when he's open.

I'm yet to see a CB lock him up. The problem is the scheme (KM) and Dak's ability to quickly read defenses IMO.

We saw in the KC game how bad this team looked on offense without Coop. Schultz and Cee Dee benefitted from the CB1 coverage Coop draws every game.

We about to find out if Cee Dee is WR1 ready. I hope he is.
he is not always open. in fact CD had better being open rate than Cooper. people are making cooper to be God of WRs where in reality he is barely top 15. he is good. but not elite.

so its not that is he worth to be franchise guy, but it gives us options and we can walk away if need be. we have until july 15th to decide.

This is true, but do you trust Jerry and Co. to make the correct decision here? I actually would have no issue with this if the rest of their moves seemed coherent. This is a "win now" move, but they are making a bunch of "retool/rebuild" decisions elsewhere on the roster. If we're blowing it up let's just get it over with and blow it up. Otherwise, push the chips in and make a run. We are doing neither of these things.

that's incorrect. he was 6th among TE in YAC. most of his production came in the first half of the year and he actually didn't do as well when the offense started to sputter.

5 of his TDs and nearly half of his yards came in the second half of the year. He was your leading receiver in the back half and wow Dallas sure sure lit it up didn't they!

what is our other options? McKeon? he suck. royally. we have no other TE on roster. if there was other options similar to Schultz I wouldn't mind chasing. however we can have the tag, perhaps chase another FA TE if viable and then remove the tag. right now he is the top FA TE available in the market.

Sign a guy like Maxx Williams in free agency - he's a good blocker. Then, draft a guy to develop like a Jeremy Ruckert (the guy I would want to take).

With Jarwin’s injury and Cooper as good as gone the Cowboys couldn’t afford to lose Schultz. He and Cooper led the team with 8 TD receptions. His blocking is an issue but he’s developed into a very good receiving TE.
I know you're right, but Cooper is a special talent.....too bad we can't get anything for him. Schultz is a JAG, good security blanket, but no explosiveness

Adams from GB and maybe Cooper Kupp - who else is a better route runner than Amari?

And who draws CB1 with coverage rolled to him - Coop or Cee Dee?

I love Cee Dee but he is not Coop (yet). The only knocks I have on Coop is he gets nicked up quite a bit and he couldn't play a few games because he wasn't vaxxed. Other than that, you keep your best players.

Remember the offense right before Dallas gave the Raiders a 1st for him? He immediately helped open up the offense and made Dak a better QB.

TEs like Schultz are a dime a dozen. Cooper is a special talent.....anyone that knows football can see that
I know fantasy football and I know he disappeared as a Raider and did the same as a Cowboy. Schultz was more consistent and I'll take a dozen of those.

Anyone who watched the games knows that Schultz's statistical year was directly a result of the offense becoming a total disaster in the back half of the year. Teams were leaving Schultz wide open. He would catch the ball, and fall down right where he caught it.

Do doubt, the guy had a nice year but pretending that he is a franchise tag guy is absolutely ridiculous.

Here is a question I would ask everyone. Yes Schultz was your top target for much of the year, but how good was the offense with that being the case? Down right awful.
Not pretending, he is the franchise tag guy but that doesn't mean he stays that.

He is being retained for the QB and the QB is going to get what he wants.

Dak loves to throw to Schultz as a security blanket so this move doesn't surprise me at all.

Hard to trade a player when everyone knows they’re going to be released. Schultz has developed into more than a JAG. We were loaded at WR and he still put up 78 catches for over 800 yards and was tied for the team lead with 8 TD receptions. Twice he led the team in receptions last season with 8. He moved the chains on some critical third downs. He’s dependable and hasn’t missed a game in two seasons as the starter. He’s improved each of his last two seasons.

They actually think Schultz is some elite TE vs the fact he was always schemed open by the other wrs.
Literally 30 TEs can do what he does and probably block better

I believe the team can rescind the franchise tag if they choose to if the player doesn’t sign it. Let’s hope that’s the case.

That said, I’m not upset at a one-year franchise tag for Schultz. I’d be more upset if we signed him to a long term deal.

Right. Your options right now are Schultz, counting on Jarwin who might miss the season, rolling with a rookie or bringing in a vet, which might cost you just as much to get one as good.

We definitely should draft a tight end, but we can't count on that player turning out to be what we hope he will be. This locks up Schultz for a year while we find out if the draft pick can replace him and then we don't have to tag Schultz again or give him a long-term deal.

Last season was essentially about seeing if Jarwin could retake the top spot from Schultz. He failed and looks like a player we need to cut instead. So franchising Schultz or giving him a long-term deal was really the only option. Some act like we should just move on from every player instead of paying them anything. That's not realistic.
