Your preferred choice - Gallup and Schultz or Cooper?

Cooper.

Easily.

Teams weren't game planning for Schultz. He was the check down target when Cooper was bracketed. Also, his lack of blocking from the TE spot was problematic. Gallup? Dude has an ACL injury.
I like to replay the games with Tivo and on running plays I lost track of how many times the guy Schultz was blocking made a tackle in the backfield.

I'll give a third option:

Keep Cooper and let Schultz and Gallup walk.

I have more confidence in finding a replacement for Schultz and Gallup than I do Cooper.
That's not a third option. You just chose the second option listed in the OP.

Easy, Gallup and Schultz..........no way Coop is worth $20M per year. Don't take my word, look at how many interested trade teams were left knowing they had to pay him or drop out. I'm probably using one of the first 3 draft picks on one AND drafting mid-round TE

Cooper and draft a TE. With how we use TE's I think we can replace Schultz and get similar results.

Hilarious.. Schulz puts up 8 TDs and he's a middle of the pack TE. Cooper does it and he's a superstar. Career high by the way. It's not like he was slumming it.

Lol... you do realize Shultz was a big beneficiary of Cooper and Lamb, and he's a liability in the run game.

Good for the Cowboys since this draft class is loaded at TE & WR!

Schultz is tagged and will probably get 12 million next season which isn't bad based on his productivity from last season.
They still draft a TE and probably a good one, they let Schultz walk next season.

Gallup has outstanding hands and if not for injury I'd assume we would have never kept him, as another team would pay him.

Cooper was a solid player for Dallas, amazing route runner, hate to see him leave but we all knew it was going to happen.

If we're talking preferences, I'd have never signed Zeke and Jaylon to ridiculous deals so I wouldn't be faced with this dilemma.

But getting back to the question, this offence is going to stall without Coop. Gallup and Schultz won't make a difference.

It looks to me like that’s what it came down to based on the salary cap. The Cowboys had to choose between keeping Cooper or the combination of Gallup and Schultz. Clearly we see what Dallas chose, what would your preference have been?

I definitely would have kept Cooper.
Cooper, but more about not wanting Schultz.

Plus Gallup has a blown up knee but will be paid like that didn't happen because the agent will sell Jerry that it isn't a problem. He tends to believe what he wants things to be.

I would actually prefer to pass on all three as part of a different plan of the two year variety but I think we are in agreement there....as well as the fact that that's not gonna happen.

No other TEs have benefited. We could’ve just kept Rico. What’s funny is still thinking Cooper is worth 20 million and then you can’t figure out why the team never wins anything! The salary had to go.
