I actually have no issue with this. We’ve seen his ceiling…maybe he can get closer to it in year 2 with Quinn…..
We got deeper at the position, even if all LVE will ever be is a journeyman in this league, the LB depth needed to be addressed and we knew Wagner was never coming here, we hoped and dreamed but this is reality and reality isnt all that bad. Add Fowler to the mix, and a young returning healthy talented Jabril Cox.. this will not be a weak positional group for this D.
This Back seven got better no matter how much peeps want to deny it right now.

LVE had trouble establishing himself in Quinn's defense. He worked hard in the offseason to get back but it didn't look good at the beginning. However, he began to trend up late in the season.

This may have had something to do with some nagging injuries he had at the end of the 2020 season. When a player returns to the team after an injury that doesn't mean they are 100% as if they never had that injury. I think the same is true in Dak's case as well.

Anyway, LVE ended up with the 3rd most combined tackles and 4th most solo tackles.

Most ironic, LVE played great when the rest of the team played terribly. His three games in which he had double digit tackles were the three most devastating losses in 2021. Those games were the Broncos, Cardinals, and the playoff game against the 49ers.
Maybe he has matured and been coached up for us now.

Good 1 year resign for LVE. A very team friendly "prove it" 1 year contract for only $3 million for LVE to return and start once again. Cowboys got the best end of the deal...by far.

Hope Cowboys draft Penn State LB Brandon Smith in the 2nd round. He might be available by the time the Cowboys pick late in the 2nd round. Brandon Smith would be a great replacement for LVE if the Cowboys should to not resign LVE and 2nd time after the 2022 season.

He was solid. Not the difference maker you would expect a former first round pick to be, but he's a suitable starter. The Cowboys didn't overpay and didn't invest past 2022 so this is a good deal. Doesn't preclude them from looking at Bobby Wagner and/or draft help.

"up to 3 million"

I hadn't heard the terms before. I consider that a *great* deal with a lot of potential upside.

I really can't complain about this deal. I thought he struggled all season, but he showed up in the playoff game when really just about no one else did. At the same time I thought he was as good as gone, but it's a cheap one year deal. I don't see the worst case scenario out of bringing him back being all that bad. He's cuttable if it comes down to it.

IF we could get rookie LVE back, this would be one of the greatest FA LB value signings in Boys history, better than the Rolando McClain rebirth.... but I don't think that Wolf is ever coming back, he must have cross-breeded with the Hot Boyz...

:laugh:Unreal. He was impossibly bad last year, they bring him back anyway.

Cooper, Collins, Gregory gone. That's a lot of talent walking out the door, without a scrap of talent coming in to replace them.

For a serious response....this was always going to be a reset year. The CAP Issue of 2022 AND 2023 had to be addressed, just to get parity. That $21m deficit was real and no amount of restructuring (injured Tyron, has been Zeke, Injury/unmotivated La'el, obscene contract DLaw, overpaid/performance Coop) was going to get us: 1) Under the Cap, 2) enough CAP to obtain a decent FA and 3) NOT CRUCIFY US IN 2023 when Dak's contract already MEANT WE WERE IN cap deficit.

Now you could make the argument that we could of restructured the above and that may well have been a serious consideration if we'd won a couple of play-off games in 2021. Reality was we didnt and there's a realisation that that team wasnt a player away....that band wasnt getting to number 1.

There's something to applaud (I appreciate not popular) that for the first time we've tried to draw a line in the CAP sand. This isnt the normal way the Jones' have done business (all the comments about Stephen being tight), what we normally do is restructure which STILL only frees up money for JAGS and projects.

On paper we arent going to be as good as last years team, however, we're still be favorites in the Least whilst addressing some of the most of the damaging contracts and next year potentially saying bye to Zeke, Tyron (and a DLaw contract can be so much easier to restructure).

There are some positives if you we look further than this season in isolation.

......yep and he's aware that if he wants to get paid in 2023 he's going to have to leave everything on the field or his market just wont be there.

What did they do to become deeper, resigning the same players from last year?

D Armstrong finally showed us why he was a star DE in college. I see him rising even more. And he will not be called offsides in crucial situations or being hit for bad personal fouls. Gregory is like dynamite. He can be explosive for you when needed or making you nervous. Gregory is aguy whom you do not know if he will relapse.

Armstrong and Fowler combined will be able to make our RDE better than average. Last year's 3rd rounder Golston may also prove some value in his 2nd year.

We need our DT's to better control the line of scrimmage. In the 2nd round, we need a big 6''5" or more line DL dominator.

First round is obviously for a new LG. I prefer one who also can play LT. I wonder how advanced Josh Ball is to play either tackle position. Does he have a career ahead of him similar to Doug Free? What is our center doing to get stronger?

Who will be our starting trio at WR if The Galluping Cowboy will miss the beginning of the season? Lamb, James Washington and ____?

Nah. It’s just funny you think that the cowboys getting worse and every other team getting better is no big deal. Tell me. How do you like Armstrong as the new starting RE? Lol
every other LMAO show me the 16 teams that made all these block buster paper moves 6months before game 1 and you know for fact are going to be better than us this coming season

go ahead list the teams and every move and show me their finished out roster where now they will sit back and wait on game 1.

..go stick you head in the mud obviously it would be more productive then this nonsense you spew from deep seed emotional place with no comprehension on how an off season team building phases go and we are 2 weeks into it..its sad really common sense prevails patience will win it and by game 1 they will have team built than we can judge the games not the insanity of prejudging the off season 2 WEEKS into it with 6 months to go.,its an ignorant point of view sitting behind keyboard and pouncing on every move or non-move from negative position..

what a total troll..we get it you hate the jones you are 25+ year whiner narrative club member who loves to hear himself whine and complain daily. Yet here you are Jonses owns space in your head because all you talk about is Cowboys.hes winning..:lmao2::popcorn::oldcouple:

I know I know, just settle down young buck.
I like the moves made at this point, peeps dont realize how Fowler will be used, but this is Quinn all day.
Washington is like having another Gallup, peeps are going to love this former 2nd rounder, he will be entertained here in this lineup and this is a very exciting signing.
Dont think Im not keeping track, I just get updated 1 time a day and I will comment accordingly.
Well done Jerry on day 2!

agreed like, i said this place needs to calm down, slow down and be patient.

IMO Washington is Ceds perfect replacement not Gallup type but he could be , reminds me of Wilson sits back makes big plays when called upon but not true starter or even a 2..he can fill in but nice pick up. fowler has more career sacks then Gregory and knows quinns system., we still have the draft to get LB/DE of the future.

AND a long offseason to continue building the roster., its just begun yet most thought it was over because week 1 of FA frenzy we didn't get the big names with giant overpaid deals.

How is the reality not all that bad? LVE was mediocre last year and he's returning. Dorance Armstrong was a decent rotational guy. 1 year deal. Who is better between Fowler and Gregory, I'm leaning towards Gregory. And if Fowler balls out, we're going to have the same problem with some team poaching him next year. Then we sign a WR who probably will be worse than Cedrick Wilson and we still have a hole at #1 WR. Still have 2 holes at O line. How did we get better?

We've been patient for going on 30 years. This team is engaging in the same losing formula. We let a lot of talent go and just replaced them with bargain bin guys. We seem to think that the draft is the solution to all of our problems and that we can draft 15 Micah Parsons. With the nonsense the front offense is engaging in, we could find it very difficult to retain talent like CeeDee Lamb or Parsons. Why would they want to resign here?

I'll be dead and gone before they win anything, let's just keep making excuses for this team year after year after year

Because it's been the same CRAP year after year after year. I get it people don't rember being proud of the team and not constantly embarrassed by them
