I'm all for changing where they put their cap dollars. Too much invested in a passing game that was yielding too little. Put that money into the defense and the OL. I wouldn't have let La'el go yet, it's too hard to get just a decent OL on the starting roster much less depth. Draft or sign his replacement and then dump him.

O line will regress.Same coach, same scheme, lesser talent w/ players.

Seriously, did anyone think the team as is was going anywhere? No. We were not. We desperately needed to cut salaries and start over in several areas. The guys we cut and let walk? Good moves, every one of them.

Why? Because that's the only way we were going to get better. If you focus on the big pic, job well done. You must at times get worse before you can get better.

Soooo, is this the first step toward building something good? I have no idea. However, at least we're on the right track.

while i like your posts intention its an option we are getting worse just because right now 6 months before game 1, it appears that way doesn't mean on the field in real games that how it will turn out..IMHO i dont see us as worse?we shall see in august/September what the roster actual looks like. Not now but before the real games atrt and moves are made to set the game day roster.

WE Truly wont know how the moves will work out until it will be obvious how the season went and we can than judge these moves..

fans make up their minds 2 weeks into FA and thats just ridiculous.

I remember last offseason many here said WFT was going to win the division most had us finishing 3rd , then mid season they saw Philly and WFT making moves and they said we would slip and not win the division , many said the draft sucked and the FA were cheap and this and that so on and so forth..many didn't even like the Parsons pick

its funny how often fans are WRONG! all they can live on is the 230 year nartiove to back their nonsense but the rest is almost ALL WROPMNG. .why no tam is complete in march , no moves can be judged until the games are played..yet here we have fans expecting the worse SIX freaking months until game 1..lauighable....

Why should we lie to ourselves? Denying reality only leads to disappointment at a later date. Releasing Greg the Leg is the only move that might work out for them. Stephen is cheap, so I am sure he can turn the replacement kicker into a negative if it will save him a dollar.

Which move have we made that you'd really think of as a bad move. Collins needed to go. Cooper was not the answer and was grossly overpaid. Who was released that we shouldn't have released? And no way should we have paid Gregory, von Miller, or anyone else we've been flirting w/.

Take the now out of your mind and think of how the salary cuts will affect our ability to improve the team in the future. Think of 2023, not 2022.

Sign Wagner, a starting C (Jones/Jensen), and a starting S.

Start a 3 year window of a championship run.

If it doesn’t work out we are rebuilding the same time as getting rid of Dak.

The moves are good in the sense that they are technically doing what I wanted them to do.

And that's tear it all down, don't worry about wasting Dak because he stink's and you're not winning with him anyways, but use the next couple years of Daks contract to build a good foundation and have that in place just in time for a new QB to take over.

When it's time to get a new QB the only current in house player you should have on a big contract is Parsons. Lamb and Diggs still have to prove it.

It's genius really. It stinks for the short term, but if this is the long term plan then I'm all for it.

Keeping everyone as you are proposing means that you won't be able to sign a C, S, and Wagner.

The general fan consensus in the offseason is almost always wrong from year to year.

Two years ago when the signed McCoy, Poe and others plus had some potential young players on DL, fans thought it would be the best Cowboys DL in a decade.
- Reality: Worst defense in Cowboys history.

In the 2016 off-season, fans predicted complete failure.
- Once Romo was out all threads were about starting over with a rebuild.
- Reality: They made the playoffs despite the majority of fans predicting 4 wins max.

The best predictor is to believe the opposite of Risen Star.
- The success of position groups like the DL is normally inversely proportional to the number of negative posts he makes about that group in the offseason.

The other inverse predictor is Bryan Broaddus.
- If he predicts anything, believe the opposite.

You're living in the cap past, not the cap future, and unfortunately, so are the Cowboys.
The cap is set to EXPLODE in the coming years.
Some are predicting it could be as high as 248 just next season, and a 300 mil cap is right around the corner.
The cap has been stuck in this "Covid freeze" and it's now going to come out.
20 mil for Coop is never going to be regarded as cheap, but a 20 mil WR on a 300 cap is a lot less % wise than on a 200 cap.
We are already seeing WR salaries increase. Kirk and Williams both signed for close to Coops number, and wait until you see what Adams gets. In the next few years top WR will be getting well over 20. Godwin just got 20.
Coop is costing us 6 mil in cap space this year, and he's playing for the Browns.
You could have easily restructured him and cut his number to close to that this year. (Remember Gallups 5/62.5 deal is costing just 4.5 THIS season).
Yes, the contracts increase in the future, but with an expanding cap it becomes much more managable.
Coop is in his prime, a top 10-12 receiver in the league. He was signed for 3 more years, and we let him go for next to nothing.
That is just not good asset management.
Even if you decide you want to move on in the future from him, you make it work, drive up his value and trade him for a real asset.
My guess is, after seeing Kirks, Williams and Godwins deal, Coops value has increased. He'd likely get 20-22 mil on the market if he were a FA right now, and Adams is about to reset the market.
And now we have a hole at WR, which we will need to fill either with a premium pick or with a FA.
It's like selling your home because you were afraid of the mortgage payment, but now the value has increased, and we need to go rent something and rents have gone way up. We lost the asset.
Poor management.

From a strictly financial perspective, your argument makes sense. From a team chemistry view, trouble was brewing between Dak and Coop, if it hadn't already created problems.
