Burks is the pick at 24 if he is there. Receiver salaries are out of control.

Why at 24? Why not address the trenches at 24? Our oline needs more help than WR. I think we can get a solid one in either round 2-3, and we can address the oline in round 1 and Dline in the other pick we don't take a WR. I'm thinking maybe Doubs from Nevada in round 3.

They can wait until 56 to get a WR. They need to fill the LG spot. I would only take a WR if all the 1st round worthy OGs are off the board. I have draft for need like this but the Cowboys have left themselves a gaping hole on the OL. I just don't think any starting LGs are going to be available at 56.
The receivers are rated higher then the guards it would not be smart to pick a second round rated guard over a 1st round receiver.

If I was running the team I would draft the best player on the board. Guards and tackles probably won’t be.

I'd be going for the best player on the board too, and I think a player like Zion Johnson or, if we get lucky with DT Jourdan Davis falling, that's where I'd go at 24 (or if we trade down, maybe still be able to get Zion Johnson). My counter argument to you also is that you must have a good oline at a minimum to make the WR play work better. I say that because, if your QB doesn't have time to get a good throw off, then it doesn't matter if you have Jerry Rice 2.0. Our oline is not good, and we need to particularly upgrade LG. That's where Zion Johnson comes in. I think round 2 is when I'd look at Jalen Tolbert front South Alabama. He's about 6'2", ran a 4.49, and he has a vertical jump of 36 inches. That's a very good jump. He's got the size, and I like the way he plays. Small school WR yes, but a very good looking WR yes.

There’s WR’s in FA or on the trade block while draft picks are at a premium.

BPA with our 1st and 2nd rounders. Use our bottom picks to move up in rounds 1 - 3 if need be.

Then use FA.

Nope.

1st or 2nd round.

Strengths
  • Has smooth acceleration and deceiving speed. Balanced and very fast with the ball in his hands.
  • Has long arms to stiff-arm defensive backs in the open field. Willing to lower his pads to run through tackles for extra yardage. Goes over the middle, can spin out of tackles and take the big hit.
  • Fits a zone system, can sift through oncoming traffic and explode through tiny creases and cutback lanes. Elite, darting stop-and-go acceleration. Dangerous in the open field.
  • Has elite speed and cutting ability and good hands and toughness. Lacks the ideal size, but has a similar body type to Antonio Brown.
  • Does a nice job locating and tracking deep passes and is a legitimate vertical threat. Willing to go up and attack the ball.
  • Plays fast and confident. Covers a lot of ground in the short half of the field and is slippery after the catch.
  • A savvy, natural pass-catcher with reliable hands and very good focus. Snatches the ball out of the air and shows the concentration to make acrobatic catches look easy.
  • A slippery runner with elusive footwork. Has little to no wasted movements between the reception and burst upfield.
Weaknesses
  • Does not always use his hands to secure deep throws, allowing the ball into his pads and chest.
  • NFL defenders may be able to knock him off his route because of his slight frame.

Yep, they could end up with another Conner Williams only in the 1st round this time.

Have to go with the strength of position in the !st. This draft, not great at QB and not at
OL past the top 15. WR is one of the better positions and CB one of the weaker.

guys you take the WR in round 1. We don't need to have 1st round picks all over our line, that's a fail on the coaches not being able to survive with two all-pro's. With the market for WR, you take BPA and that may even come to taking Devin Lloyd.

Broaddus mentioned something very valuable yesterday...

- do you trust taking a 1st rd WR with this QB and OC, they can't seem to USE them effectively
- do you trust taking a 1st rd G with this Oline Coach who failed with McGovern, who has the same grades as these current guards at 1:2:1
- or do you trust taking the best LB/DT knowing DQ will coach him to be the most effective player possible

I am not sure Williams is not better then Green/Zion right now. The Cowboys might be better off drafting a second round offensive tackle with the first round receiver.

So we going to draft another WR at 1? Man how many scapegoats we got for Dak?

If I were running this team (to clean up the mess the Joneses created), for this year, I would draft on position of need for the first 3 rounds. Get some O'line help for Dak.

Once that has been done, from next year on out, yes. I would go after best player available.

There is no way I'd go WR in the first round. That would be a luxury pick for the Cowboys. Far bigger needs.
But drafting for need vs BPA does not work most of the time.

It would be interesting to see the needs list management has assembled. Besides QB and maybe RB, what don't they need?

I see them as weak on the OL, DL, LB, WR and they need secondary help.

They let Cooper go and reportedly tried to get Parker, I think WR is high on their list, including the OC and QB lists.

They need a real concerted effort to rebuild the OL but is this the draft to do that in? The fall off from the top rated G's and T's is steep.

Not a good year for need on that OL. Could end up with just more Williams and McGovern's. Outside of the 1st round with OL, they've been treading water and going nowhere.

One thing I would accept, if the GM, is that LA and TB are better poised to take it all with GB as long as they have Rodgers in a crummy division. The NFC is down and they should make the playoffs so take the BPA in every pick to try an improve the team.

What they need to improve this season is the front 7 and there will be players at that 24 spot that can provide immediate help and that's the best coach so give him the most help.
