I believe Gil just came up w/ the wrong terminology. Instead of using the word dead, what he meant was the kid was living on the edge. People need to stop hanging on every word.

Nobody's perfect, especially when talking to the public.
Everyone makes mistakes when you think about it, I probably make 3 mistakes everyday before I even wake up and get out of bed.
Just saying that upon immidiate reaction, especially when its terminal news, people in general have a pre programmed response already in their mind, but sometimes its not the best response in the moment.

I dealt with the stuff p*ssies like firefighters couldn't handle- mutilated bodies, severe decomposition, deaths of babies and children, murder scene investigations, etc. Guess that gives me some kind of authority based on your opinion here.

You're being a classless fool, again. At least Gil had the decency to apologize. Instead you're so insecure you have to turn an obvious mistake into some kind of test of masculinity. I'd tell you to get a life but we all know it's too late for that. Go back to threatening strangers on the internet because not everyone's convinced you're such a tough guy, Worm.
That is some dark corner scary stuff right there my friend...

I see people walking on, jogging on and crossing highways. It is not so uncommon. Not safe, but it is done.
Just depends on which highway.
In Costa Rica I can run down the Pan Am expressway and even change lanes with no fear of becoming a road pizza, but I would never do that in East LA.
Just saying.

I wonder how many of us are truly free of saying something they wish they hadn't. I'd venture a guess it's about 100% of us! :banghead:
It's convenient to look down on those at fault. It's far more difficult to have the humility to admit being guilty of that ourselves.

My father is 90 and has lived with us for the last 2 years.

NO WAY should a 90 year old man be put on the airwaves to give his opinion on anything unless it can be edited.

No matter how Mr. Haskins untimely death happened, in todays social media age, no way in heck do you make negative comments about the deceased so soon after the death of the person, particularly if all the facts aren't in.

The old man apologized, but that was only AFTER he was starting to get crucified.

Fact or fiction on what the old man said, it was in VERY bad form.

We had a good sermon sometime ago at church. Words are like toothpaste. Once you get those words out, it's almost impossible to get them back in. Be VERY careful what you say when the whole world can hear what you say when it's being recorded for a audience.

First, I will assume this has been confirmed.

Is he diagnosed with any degree of dementia?

The Gil Brandt I knew would never make that comment. I've got to believe he is experiencing medical issues with his brain.

That's the truth, or close enough to be considered true. I'm presently 81 years of age and swear that scenario is real. Gil is 90.

My dad had dementia the last decade of his life. Speaking with him, you wouldn't suspect it. That was at age 80. At 88, you knew!

By the time 95 came around, he was only a shell of the man I had come to know throughout his lifetime. Upon that, he passed on!

Whatever, troll.

I served almost 7 years on a fire rescue truck, saw so many accidents happen, helped save so many lives, brought so many lives back and sadly saw so many end their lives. I even got disabled putting my life on the line to save others. What have you ever done to judge me on social media other than yap your trollish mouth? I guarantee you wouldn't be able to handle what I have seen and experienced. I'm simply defending Mr. Brandt for saying what he was honestly asked for through his experience and knowledge.

I have 31 years in law enforcement, and I'm still active. I guarantee you I have seen and can handle everything you have seen and much more. But at the end of the day no one will care. So what? Thats not what this topic is about.

In regards to Brandt, I would have chosen to say nothing at all and left it at that. I'm not going to hop up on a box and shout my displeasure or praise his comments either. It was tragic what happened and I will just leave it there. Without the details from an investigation it is impossible to pass judgement. I don't think this is like a case of someone trying to get selfie on the edge of a cliff and stepping a half an inch too far.

Law enforcement? Medical Examiner's office? EMT or Paramedic?

Be interesting to know what happened exactly.

I'm betting suicide......

The whole story doesn't make much sense if your thinking logically......

Why is a guy walking on a busy freeway to begin with?
If he ran out of gas....you telling me a million dollar athlete doesn't have a phone???? Or is too stupid to call for help?
Why the hell is a guy trying to cross a busy freeway to begin with?
Trying to tell me he didn't see a dump truck coming?

As far as I'm concerned....the world is a better place with one less dumb *** that might get someone else killed besides themselves.

Darwinism is far overdue.....

I'm done with stupid people........Flame suit on

Gil sounds like a common sense man. I like common sense.

Your talking about Twitterverse dumping on a former scout....with some 50+ years of experience. He told everyone the kids downfall was coming......no one listened.

I know what side I'm on.....And it's not the media mouth pieces that were bagging on Gil.

And if you really want to get to the bottom of what was fueling that crap.....Well....we can't talk about it here.

The time of day the accident happened, 6:30am, would suggest a toxicology report is needed. Many people who enjoy the night life are headed home at this hour. Maybe he was intoxicated on alcohol or something else. If that is the case it might explain why he wouldn't have thought clearly enough to stay in his car and make a phone call.

It's way too soon to jump to conclusions. Suicide could be a possibility as well, but that could easily be determined by examining social media posts, speaking with friends and family, etc.

Handle what one sees? Yes, I agree. They are all very dangerous in their own right. Thank you for your service. I won't allow anyone to wrongly judge me when they truly don't know me. I defend Mr. Brandt based on his decades of experience and how he has scouted so many players for years, including Haskins. Was it bad timing? Yes, but he was asked specifically by the podcast hosts for his opinion, so he answered.

As for the "we don't know the details" portion of this investigation, what we do know is what was reported by the state trooper at the incident stating how Haskins pulled his car over on a "limited access facility" on a very busy interstate, got out of his car (instead of staying safe in his vehicle and simply calling for road service assistance), and decided to try to cross a very busy 6 lane interstate highway. Who in their right mind does that, especially when you are worth $15 million and have the opportunity to become the starting QB for a professional football team? This is not the 1st, 2nd or 3rd time Haskins had made such poor, critical or dangerous decisions off the field. Sadly, his poor decisions caught up to him and cost him his life. Feel bad for his family and loved ones, but also everyone was lucky Haskins' deadly decision did not cause harm to other drivers passing through at that particular location on that very busy interstate.

You know how THIS generation became so fragile and thin skinned?
Because in the past, people used to rush to judgment and like KILL others based on assumption or not wait to all the facts came in and sent people to jail based on what sounded right.
That's why we developed a system that waits for all the facts or as many facts as are available before we rush to judgment.
That system has always been in place . And no one is calling for a rush to judgement. We simply want to honestly call it for what it is.

Hold on. Full stop.

If what Mr. Gil Brandt said turns out to be true (the way Dwayne Haskins was always living on the edge or even getting run over and killed for jogging on a highway), how can anyone blame Mr. Brandt for saying what he said?
If my wife comes out of the bathroom and says "Do I look fat in this?" I assure you the answer in my head, and what comes out of my mouth are two different things.
