Plus, 3 Lombardi’s in that “33 year period”, which is more than most…
yes, true, but what were the circumstances? good coaches. good GM (Johnson). someone with football expertise. Jerry being the owner. so Jerry the owner was able to get three superbowl trophies. Jerry the GM has been a utter failure

since Jerry becamse the GM...its been pretty bad.

Didn't Jerry directly select Jimmy Johnson as Head Coach?
Didn't Jerry directly select Troy Aikman as QB?
Just those two actions had about as much of being a part of it as you can get....as so much flowed from that
yes, Jerry the owner hired Jimmy the headcoach/GM (without the title). He hired a football guy to run his football team. Johnson Liked Aikman, he was going to be the ultimate pick. Johnson recruited Aikman in OK State. Aikman went to oklahoma and then jimmy went to Miami and tried recruiting him again, when Aikman decided to leave OK....

Jerry the GM has failed. utterly without a doubt been a total failure. Jerry the owner isn't going to fire, Jerry the GM.

and its a the case of what have you done for me lately. coaches get fired when they don't perform any more. some retire. GMs get fired if they don't get it done. its been 26 years of nothingness under this GM. people want to give him credit for something that happened over a quarter century ago and he is living off the fumes of that....this GM should have been fired 15 years ago.

Losing by 6 points isn't collapsing. They played badly but, if Wilson hauls in that pass on the 11 yardline they could have still won that game. Lol at making the drafting of Parsons some sort of negative.
wow. hey, I have been an ardent fan and I thought we got manhandled in the playoff game. all the stuff you are saying, reek of desparation time and bunch of what if fantasy happen-chances.....and we could say that if SF did X, the score would have been far worse.....there is no participation trophy for losing by 6.

I've never been a fan of Jerry as GM, however......

Like it or not, Jerry has more experience as an NFL GM than almost anyone in the league....and he also has more of an actual football-playing resume than many (or even most).

Their 30 year record does include about 16 years of playoff appearances and 3 Super Bowl wins
there is experience. and there is being good. Jerry may have been self appointed GM for 30 years. but he is not any good. and lets be honest. his first few years, a GM in name only. Jimmy was the football guy.

I was answering about whether jerry had anything at all to do with the three SBs.
Obviously, we know Jimmy did. But there is no Jimmy without Jerry

Also, Aikman WAS a Jerry pick, though Jimmy didn't fight it.
Early on at OK St, Aikman did not like Jimmy and even transferred.
But Jimmy also drafted "his QB" (Walsh) in the 1st round of the supplemental draft.

But look, I've never wanted Jerry as GM. Just pointing out some facts

Or even a small business. I know some have from what little I remember from a few posts.
I did, a neighborhood bar. But only ran $320K to $400K a year in sales.

However, businesses are not the same as a professional sports franchise.
You can fire an employee if they do not work out. Heck one time I fired all my employees but 1 at one time. Though I only had 5 to 10 employees at anyone time. I had 5 regular employees at that time on regular payroll. But one only worked a night a week.

Can't do that with players under contract, though many think it is that easy to dump the players contracts or trade them.
I truly dont think fans have clue on just how many employees the DC employee at the Star, at ATT, as well as what goes into minting the inside outside of those buildings from janitorial, security, vending, and grounds etc.theres marketing and ticketing advertisement and so much stuff , do fans think its the Jonses doing all this, um no they have an army of professionals under them taking care of it all.

they also still have the oil and other ventures too many too list, but Papa Johns is big one.

Im pretty sure they have cluse on how to run a business and lie you said they played football, in colge, have children that pay high level football and i'm sure they know football. are they the best Gms/owners, Presidents etc , NO but for sure not the worse and never have been,.

of course there is no jimmy without Jerry. Jerry the owner hired him. thus Jerry should be the owner, a good owner. and let football people make all the football related decisions.

I said the same thing in another response. Jimmy liked Aikman. recruited him hard. When Jimmy wnet to Miami, he tried to recruit him to Miami as well. Jimmy wasn't stupid to pass on a player, that his own scouts had said was a can't miss. Jerry likes to be up, front and center and take credit for everything.

Jimmy drafted Walsh, who was his QB in Miami.....and that turned into a 1st, 2nd, 3rd round pick after the trade.

We don’t like the SB drought, but you can’t cherry pick. Bad AND good occurred under his ownership.

yes, bad/good under his ownership. first few good years. made smart decisions. hired the right people. let them run the team....he gets credit for that. past 26+ years. hasn't had any good hires. bad GM. team has sucked. its Jerry the GM for the past 26 years and his ego that have dogged the cowboys. there are no checks and balances any longer. no one to bounce ideas against and Jerry's ego as taken over and he doesn't listen to anyone. results for 26+ years speak for themselves. Tell me which GM would keep his job with this type of track record? the problem is, Jerry the owner will never fire Jerry the GM.

Team has sucked as far as winning Super Bowls for the past 26 years, yes, but still not the “utter failure” some portray.

Aikman did not play at Ok St or for Johnson. He played for Switzer, who changed the offense to get him and when he broke his leg, Switzer went back to his offense and Aikman transferred to UCLA but Johnson did try to get him to come to Miami but would not assure him that he would start.

Johnson did not run the type offense that Aikman wanted to run and was far more on the run game and defense.

Johnson took Aikman because there really was no choice to keep the interest of the fans. Irvin was already there and Emmitt was the fall back after Francis was off the board, his first choice. The guy responsible for the success of the triplets was Norv Turner, adopting Zampese's offense.

Johnson was a D guy from birth. He knew the value of an OL for the run game but he knew D's win championships. That was what he brought to the table and turned that team so fast.

it is utter failure. haven't reached the CCG since. not even close. 4-11 in the playoffs. got past first game and got blown out each time. as the top seed in the division, lost the game at home, badly.... we are now, along the side of Texans, Lions, Jags, Browns.....that's not good company...

my mistake. he went to OK, then transfered. Johnson went to Miami after Aikman's first year in OK and when Aikman wanted to transfer, he recruited him hard again.

as a team of 3-13. they blew up the team and knew full well, they have to start with a QB. so they took Aikman, although some in the organization wanted Mandrich......Johnson wasn't stupid to pass on a QB he had chased in two different colleges. but of course on a team that had been gutted. was 3-11, there is a lot to fix. they weren't going to waiver from taking Aikman......

and I don't disagree, OC, DCs manage the tactical aspects of games and have a lot of input into the strategy. Johnson liked Turner and brought him over.

No, not at all. But the entitlement as Cowboys fans always rears its head.

We can't be like Browns, Lions and Washinton fans. And now we're not even like Bengals fans.

Can you imagine what this would like if it had been around in Danny White's time?

We are NOT along side Texas, Lions, Jags or Browns! We don’t have SB’s in the last 26 years, so entitled fans are mad they can’t brag at the water cooler. But, we have several things those other teams don’t:
1)Ratings
2)Franchise value
3)Regular season winning percentage
4)More division titles
5)An owner with a yellow jacket
6)Best nickname, stadium, uniforms and heritage

They’re not Lombardi’s, but it’s more than they have, and NO, that DOESN’T mean I’m fulfilled by “mediocrity”. Those are just facts. All fans can do is speculate and hope.

But not his general management. Once Johnson was gone and he was left to his own devices, not a good track record.

Salary cap was also implemented. So they had a lot of highly paid players for that time, as they were given new deals after the SB win. That started then behind from the start. And then Jerry gave out even bigger deals, such as Deion.

Plus the better players moved on for bigger pay checks.
It was a combination of things that got them behind. Especially when the triplets were gone.

Fans with an agenda say it was all Jimmy. It wasn’t. It was a lot of good fortune that came together.
Jimmy could not repeat it in Miami.

But too many fans holds those lean years against them. Did any fan truly think they were going to be contenders after they were all gone. They did put together some good teams later on, 2007, 2009, I think it was, then Jerry screwed it up with hiring Garrett.

True it has been 26 years, but it really has been 12 to 15, and 10 wasted with Garrett. Other than 2014 and 2016.
