After being a fan for 47 years it was not easy to narrow it down, but here is mine:

For me it was the 1978 Cowboy's SB victory over the Bronco's.

I was a brokenhearted kid after the Cowboys lost to the Squealers in the 1976 SB, my first season as a Cowboy's fan.

For us to win it all in such a dominating fashion was so, so sweet !

So here is a chance for a positive slow offseason thread !

Whatcha got ???

NFC Championship win in 92 at SF.
The start of our new Dynasty and man what could have been if not for our ego monster Jerry!

was that the Bob Lilly game where he sacked Griese for a HUGE loss?
Yes - for 29 yards. Many fans overlooked / forgotten it was a duo effort between Lilly and Larry Cole.
Bob Griese was nimble in the pocket and a nifty scrambler when the pocket collapsed.
On that play, the Dallas DLine Duo bared down on the Miami QB from opposite ends, making him continually twist and turn left and right - all the while retreating further and further back from the LOS before Lilly closed in and made the tackle.

I know I get onto Jerry, but I wanna be fair. Jimmy was just as bad back then as Jerry. It was like oil and water and was bound to end badly due to their ego's clashing. Both were Alpha dogs. The predictable thing happened. It is what it is. We weren't there, but I imagine as many coaches can be, I bet ya Jimmy was very controlling and commanded the room. That said, Coaches have hair trigger reactions by nature, and when Jerry ruffled his feathers, it set Jimmy off and things were essentially over. Jerry said some terribly childish stuff because HE WAS JEALOUS of the attention and command Jimmy had. He regretted this later. Its well documented. Jimmy also takes blame in several interviews. Both men have taken the blame and thats fine by me. But lets not act like it was all Jerry. It was both men. It had been brewing from day 1.

1000% THIS ^
It was on both of them, and a crying shame because we could have ruled the NFL for several more seasons until the salary cap took its toll on the talent we had....

As the owner, Jerry should have bit the ego bullet (Knowing he had 0 coaching talents) and let Jimmy coach the team without his interference!
Yes, both type A personalities but in the end, Jerry should have known better!!!

after Switzer we hired a way underrated HC in Chan Gailey and the guy can really coach. Aikman latched onto the new scheme and was excited as he felt things went stale under the previous regime. and we were starting to gain traction again, then Aikman gets hurt and he basically never really returns to form and plays another down. I think it was Lavar Arrington that ended it. Emmitt was thriving as well. I would have loved to have seen what we would have done with all the triplets healthy that year under Gailey.

Yep hiring Jimmy was the greatest thing Jerry ever did for the Cowboys.
He does deserve credit for that as it netted us 3 super bowls.

Middle school in south Jersey during the '77 season and it being a 15-2 Super Bowl Championship. Those Monday mornings after the playoff wins and then the Superbowl were awesome! Some of my finest trash talking to date lol.

I still think it is SB XXVII for me. After seeing the Cowboys hit rock bottom and having everyone make fun of us, it was really satisfying to finally stick it to all the haters.

Can’t just name one. Here’s my top 3 :
  • 1964- my dad took me to my first Cowboys game at the Cotton Bowl when I was 6. They played the browns. Got to see Dandy Don, Bob Lily, Don Perkins, and the great Jim Brown.
  • Jan 1972- SB VI- Cowboys first SB win, 24-3 vs Miami.
  • Jan 1993- NFC Championship win 30-20 vs niners in SF.
So many great memories.

He taught me the value of hard work and respect....I wouldn't have had it any other way. He never really whooped me, but the threat that he could was enough for me. Lol, that and his giant hands with a size 19 ring! He's 87 and I see him everyday.

Good to know, I lost mine for cancer when he was 76, he was a tough, gentle dude , he fought hard and overcame the cancer and lived 4 more years before remission.
