Dak made progress training with Kitna. Dak just makes progress with coaching. He trains in the offseason every year. He's serious about his craft. His commitment to improvement, and *demonstrated* ability to improve, is the best thing about him as QB long term.
As for Romo, per Brice Butler Romo was *at one point* the guy making the weekly offensive game plan. Whether that continued in 2016, I can't say for sure, but good chance it would have, IMO. Once injured, Romo would have had more time on his hands, and there was every expectation that Romo would return as the starter sometime that season.
Demoting Romo from making the game plan while injured would have been a huge slap in the face for an injured starter presumed to return to the starting role. If anything, I would have expected them to *increase* his coaching responsibilities when he was injured.
I dont think romo was ever making the game plan, he just had input for it. JG and linehan made the game plans, with tony in the meetings with input.
Once dak was in they changed things to make it simpler for rookie dak, and it worked, later like next year they threw that aside and just made a game plan they liked
and expected dak to run that, and things didnt go so good.
I also think once tony realized they might go with dak as starter, he would have slacked off on trying to help dak , or with game plans.
NFL coaches are arrogant, and they dont really like to involve players in the making of game plans or plays, they want to do all the thinking and planning,
and the players are just supposed to "do their job"
It is a I am the boss, I am the smart one, you dummys just do what I tell you to do, the way I tell you to do it!
That is why OC's call the O plays, even though they have a smart QB, like rodgers or brady, should be calling the plays, but they are not allowed to do that.
DC's call the D plays, even though they have smart players who could do it on the field.
Romo should have been calling the plays from 2009 onward, but JG thought he was smarter
and a better play caller.
Kellen now thinks he is smarter and better at calling plays than dak.
It is the same on every team.
My take is some qb's need the plays called for them, but most experienced qb's who are smart should be calling the plays.
