Two Words...Shotgun Snaps.
He can't do it. He played about a dozen snaps at OC last season and the QB was under center for ALL of them. The Cowboys rarely ever run back to back plays from under center and definitely not several consecutively.
In college he used a reverse grip on the ball when he played OC. Basically with his hand under the ball. That actually works well for under center snaps; however, for shotgun it is equivalent to an underhand 'granny shot' in basketball. No possibility of a spiral. The shotgun snaps just floated back to the QB.
For the Cowboys, he did snap with a conventional grip, but he didn't do shotgun snaps in the regular season.
Matt Farniok looked good in the limited snaps he played during the regular season at both OC and OG.
- He has the size (6-5, 311 when drafted), good arm length for an interior OL (33-1/4") and his 3-cone, SS, vert and bench were all very good.
