People forget Tyler was coached by an inexperienced OL coach at Tulsa. It’s not like he is still raw and played at Alabama.

Real coaching will go a long way

Great technically,,?
Have read otherwise
This is what the second scout said...

“He’s a left tackle but I thought he was a long, long ways away,” said a third scout. “He’s just so out of control and so raw. Just sloppy. The big guy tries but the technique’s way off. He lunges, he’s top-heavy. I don’t see the top athletic ability that some others may see.”

In other words, the Cowboys screwed up royally once again! They pulled another Taco Charlton. Even Taco tweeted saying the Cowboys waaaay overdrafted.

They took a project at 24. It’s just that simple. The comparisons to other first round OL we took is silly because all three - Martin, Smith and Frederick played at power 5 schools and were more polished and accomplished coming out of college.

Smith is significantly more raw an OL prospect than those three.
You hope for a solid starter in the first round not a project
That could be why the blow back

He was coached by an inexperienced coach. He didn’t get proper coaching

You’re not grasping at straws. His game as it is projects well on the inside. He’s powerful and looks like the kind ok player that will hold up well against interior lineman. He’s a long way from being an NFL Tackle. But LG is where I think he can thrive as a rookie.

Yeah, but I really don’t like the holding penalties he has had. Hoping we can coach him up on that. The flip side is that it is a big step up in competition for him.

Did they watch any games from last year?

Biadasz had some terrible moments, particularly against Vea and Hargrove, but he was better overall than some think. I'm not sold on him, but I'm not really down on him yet. Guard was the position that needed to be fixed the most.

Good point. Where’s he gonna get that “real coaching”?
Philbin been coaching since the 80s. He should know at least one technique. Fingers crossed he learned something in 40 years

Didn’t show last year when the OL was throwing around penalties like candy and showing poor technique, communication and overall lack of discipline.

Philbin should have been fired.
I said one technique man. I didn’t say turn him into Tyron! Lol

Maybe I didn’t explain myself well enough. Zach Martin was a talented OT in college who would have been a little miscast as an OT in the NFL, but exactly because of his skills as a college OT, made him a great NFL guard. Maybe Tyler is not suited to be a an NFL OT because he’s not coordinated enough, or because he’s extremely raw (let’s not forget that Zach started at a power 5 school as an underclassman). But he obviously has the physical skill set to become a very good NFL OG; maybe not on Zach’s level, but still. That’s all I’m making a comparison of. And let’s not act like Tyler was a slouch at OT at Tulsa.
