Was the number one problem on the D addressed?

I think many of you are far to hard on Jerry. He’s far from perfect, and if you took all of the the ums and lip smacks out of his press conferences it would only last 1/4 as long.

But having said that his biggest down fall has been believing the snake oil salesmen DCs he has hired to help fill out the roster. Taco and Hill were both Marinelli picks. He seemed to have no eye for talent and the game had passed him by. He refused to get trashcan full of dirt players.

Enter Quinn and he immediately goes and gets Urban who was cheap but underrated. He added Bohanna last year. And now he has added the Razorback trash an full of dirt. He make not get it fixed this year but you can tell he is trying and the off season is not yet over.
Bolded. That is why we are hard on Jerry!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I think they have really high expectations for Cox. He was the reason Smith got released. He’s coming back from injury this year. LVE is on a one-year deal which means he’ll ball out
LSU had high expectations for Jabril Cox but he wasn't an every down LB. The problem was he could make plays but he was inconsistent.

I saw him more as a passing downs LB because he does have an uncanny ability to get turnovers around the los.

We didnt get gashed in the run game all year long. That was 2020.

They gave up 4.5 yards per carry. Only 9 teams gave up a higher ypc. Going back to his time in GB and even some of his pressers prior to his first year here, McCarthy's philosophy is score a lot of points and get after the QB.

Just because they got up on some teams who abandoned the run doesn't mean they were effective against the run last year. Nearly every loss last year was because they couldn't stop the run and/or keep up on offense.

There is a fundamental flaw with our GM that kills us every year. He believes his own sales pitch and thinks if he drafts them or signs them, they are automatically really good.

What’s even worse- He believes going into every season the best of best case scenarios. The GMs winning SBs are the ones who have a critical eye of their own work and assume nothing will go as planned. In short, the best GMs don’t believe the sales pitch given to their fans each year. In Big D, our GM 100% believes his own sales pitch. Thus the last 26 seasons and counting.

Oh….And it doesn’t appear that this team addressed its lack of run stopping ability in this draft. Time will tell.

Gotta hope Bohanna or Ridgeway pan out as a run clogger.

The "blah, blah, blah..." part seemed a tad disrespectful. Not saying you're a POS, just that I don't think his post warranted that.
I didn’t type it with an insulting intent and if someone’s feelings got hurt, that’s on them and has nothing to do with me if I may be blunt. I didn’t curse or say anything personal about him.

Yea, that’s where stats don’t always tell the whole story. But it was much improved ( 16th in 2021) from 2020 after finishing 31st in rushing defense.

You mean our front office is drinking their own kool-aid?
That's disturbing.

At least occupy the interior OL and give the LB's a shot.

Landry's Flex was built on that one principle, make the interior 3 block 2 and have the MLB lead the team in tackles, which he did every year,

That has changed over time because one year Newman led the team and Carr did another. When your CB is leading the team in tackles, you have a problem.....and an unhappy CB.

What's up w/ the personal talk? Maybe you should focus on football.

Osa and Galley are 3 techs. You might know that if you spent more time on football thoughts instead of going out of your way to throw childish insults at people.
Galli has put on weight and strength to masquerade as a 1 tech.

We will see more this year.

My first thought was that he's the best they've picked to address the position since I've known you, but is he good enough? Hopefully!
Very tough to analyze this one. I do know he appears to be a black hole for approaching RB's. So, that is why his ability to get low is beyond crucial. It's the make or break trait. Basically, this ability wasn't anywhere near as important in college, as there were few players who could exploit this. In the NFL, that will not be the case. If he keeps rising on the snap and doesn't learn how to stay low, he'll be pushed out of the way far too often.

On the flip side, he's a mountain of a man and plays angry, an element that we've been missing up front on D for far too long.

Not saying they were good, but they were improved. In 2020 they were an embarrassment.

Right. But the bigger question is did or have we done anything to improve upon last year. I’m not sure we can say we have. At least not in player acquisition.

Yea, typical fan who didn’t like the opinion so pursued bashing personally.
Not really! You look at the general outlook of this message board and it’s pretty negative.

Misery isn’t an insult, it’s actually a condition/emotion that people deal with. Simply means unhappy!

You would’ve had a point if I would’ve called people morons, idiots etc..

Yep, again they dont value the run stopper.
Booger's "war daddy" is not a DT unless he's Donald.

He has always leaned toward the pass rushing DE's and passing offense because that is more exciting to watch and it is. Stuff the run doesn't get too many people excited but a sack, oh my.

It is all about scoring and more TDs are scored and given up through air than on the ground. He doesn't see where a good run D could help his offense and QB.
