Was the number one problem on the D addressed?

Ok. But why do teams choose between them ? And are there more IT and 3T?

Why would they force double teams if they aren’t pressuring the QB?

Technically, 1T and 3T are defensive alignments.

The offensive center is the 0, so a NT head up on the center is playing 0 technique. Then you count outwards towards the tackles. The gaps between are odds and the head up positions are even. There's nuance to that, i.e. playing the shoulder of a tackle vs the shoulder of the guard, but that’s the basic jist.

Seeing how they line up, you can understand the difference between the type of guy you'd want. You want a Wilfork at the 0 or 1. You want Aaron Donald at the 3.

These player flash. When you know it’s coming because it has te whole game it’s easy for a player to make the play. It’s when the game starts and it’s the first quarter and you dont know what is coming. We saw what happened in the first quarter of the playoff game. First was a problem by Quinn. He gave there qb way to much respect. Look at how we treated washingtons qb when they were on a roll and we played them. We went after him. Stuffed the run on the way to the qb. We should have and needed to play them the same way. We brought it at one point and Brown got a pick.. We could have dominated that game..

Our 2 biggest problems have been stopping the run and pressuring the passer. If we had taken Johnson at 24 and Jones at 56 we could have impacted both problems but we had already predetermined that we will take OG in rd 1 and Williams in rd 2 so we picked who we did.

Was Bob Lilly a 1 or 3 Tech?

How about Randy White?

Remember in Landry's FLEX defense one of the DTs lined up off the ball a bit. I think it was to remove the possibility of traps and double teams or at least reduce them. And give the "FLEX"ed DT a chance to read and react.

So 3 Techs were both of our HOF DT. Why do we want a 1 Tech then?

Right. But the bigger question is did or have we done anything to improve upon last year. I’m not sure we can say we have. At least not in player acquisition.

All young DT's should be better. Have to think Cox will be better than the safety against the run. We did take a big guy in the 5th. We shall see.

Coach, honestly there isn’t a soul on this planet that knows whether or not we got better in this draft and off-season or not. We hope so. But we won’t know until the live bullets begin to fly in the reg season.
True.
And fwiw, the second half of FA (post draft) often has more immediate impact than the rounds 3-7 of the draft
Nothing major, but Dallas will, and always has, added a few post-draft players to plug the more minor short-term holes.

I do think they are counting on some last years draft class to step up in year 2 as well.

Guess we'll see

I don’t know why people “think” that a 5th round pick can’t become a serious contributor. Where would you expect to draft a guy who can’t really rush the passer, but can stop the run? Somewhere after the 3rd or 4th rounds is what I would expect. You should also be able to find them fairly cheap in free agency.

No one thinks that, of course they can. Hasn’t happened for us in over a decade and chances are low it will. You apparently think the impact Davis and Cox will have on the Philly D is what Gallimore and Ridgeway will do for us LOL?

You're basically saying Jethro Pugh wasn't contributing as well.
Didn’t say that. Who was the strength ? That should be our priority. Drafting in1st round a 3 Tech like Lilly or White then surrounding him with a 1 tech. Which can be had in lower rounds.

But they were the strength of those DL and top defenses.

Anyway , why are we wanting 1 tech instead of 3 tech if our 3 Techs have a greater history ?

If the guys playing opposite of them were on par with what we've had at the position lately, the team as a whole would not have been as successful.

Your logic is basically those guys were Hall of Famers, therefore the position they play is the only important one.

Again, didn’t say that. You’re reading more into it. They were the strength and were 3Tech. Their supporting cast were 1Tech. Is that right?

There is a fundamental flaw with our GM that kills us every year. He believes his own sales pitch and thinks if he drafts them or signs them, they are automatically really good.

What’s even worse- He believes going into every season the best of best case scenarios. The GMs winning SBs are the ones who have a critical eye of their own work and assume nothing will go as planned. In short, the best GMs don’t believe the sales pitch given to their fans each year. In Big D, our GM 100% believes his own sales pitch. Thus the last 26 seasons and counting.

Oh….And it doesn’t appear that this team addressed its lack of run stopping ability in this draft. Time will tell.
This is a very good summation of our franchise.
When the front office believes its own rhetoric you are in trouble.

Having said that I think they drafted ok this weekend. Not great but OK. I think they got sacked into need early on and that typically proves to be damning , but it's fair to say they brought that on by having a disgusting free agency period.
