Are we sure Ferguson can’t be a star?

Ferguson can be Dalton Schultz.

If you’re complaining about Ferguson and wanting to resign Schultz, just slap yourself.
We need 2 TEs. There is no denying that. So...resigning Dalton Schultz AND keeping rookie Jake Ferguson is most likely what the Cowboys are going to do.

The key is by how much will the Cowboys give a new contract to Schultz?

we did the same thing at te also

Our depth chart is just a bunch of warm bodies. Lol

We had a pretty good run game until Jarwin got hurt for some reason.

We coulda brought 5-6 upgrades in for 3-5 million but we'd rather try to win the Superbowl with McKeon. Lmao

It's just like trying to win w a bargain bin safety forever

I think our problem with blocking in the run game was all Schultz. He had been pretty good at it, but struggled last year. I think we see Ferguson as similar to him, and I think the Cowboys are fine with Schultz returning as the starter and we'll be watching to see if he can clean up his blocking. If he can, he'll likely get a long-term deal until Ferguson proves to be about as good.

I don't really think it's comparable to safety. I mean, Schultz was drafted while we still had Witten (albeit Witten near the end of his career). Now, Schultz in that lead role proved to be a capable starter, except for the blocking slip. This year will determine if we need to invest better resources into the position.

What are you guys watching when it comes to our new rookie TE Jake Ferguson? Seriously?

Here, take a look...

As one can see, TE Jake Ferguson #84 is very good at run blocking! Better than what we've seen in Dallas for quite some time and definitely much better than what so many on this thread have been falsely accusing him of lacking.

Does anyone do some video research before they post nowadays?

He’s more than adequate as blocker. One thing I like is his effort. Part of what drives me nuts about Schultz is his effort and awareness; there are times where he just loafs around and doesn’t look for a guy to put a hat on.

Well witten my goat tight end. He wasn’t fast, but lb ers don’t have the quickness to stay with good t e
Liked your post but he was not the Goat tight end. I think you have to bring up
Gonzalez, Antonio Gates, Gronk & Kelce even Shannon Sharp. He is at the big boy table for sure but not the GOAT.

Agreed.

Cowboys did a very nice job finding and picking up Jake Ferguson. He may be the reason the Cowboys have yet to give Schultz a big longterm contract?

I'd rather have picked Jelani Woods in the second round and Jalen Wydemyer in the 6th or as a ufa. Both guys were there for the taking. It makes me I'll.

We knew all the best tes would be gone before we picked in round 3.

Wydermymer from A&M wasn't even drafted. But got picked up by Buffalo as a ufa. Buffalo is gonna be a powerhouse this year.

Woods scored a TD on every 5 1/2 passes and put up the best combine #'s

These were the most athletic receiving tes in the draft imo.

Woods came in for a 30 visit

I'm not sure why we didn't get him on pick #2.

Wydermeyer tested like a non-athlete during the draft process. Not sure where you're getting that he was one of the most athletic TEs in this draft - it's actually the opposite. And, he's lazy as hell.

Witten early on in his career was not slow, his 40 time was 4.65 at the combines. For TE that is pretty good. No doubt over 17 years in the league he slowed down.

Of course we're not sure. It's just that guys with his package of talents and skills rarely are stars.
umm Witten didn't have special Talents at all..just sure hands and knack to find way to get open and catch contested balls.. so lets stop that nonsense..

just stop at , of course we are not sure....the rest will be settled on the field.

His 40 time is slow but his other (more relevant) times were somewhere in the 95-99 percentile.

He could be a really good player for us.

Biggest knock they had on him was the expectations were sky high after his first year in college, but he just kinda stayed the same. As I understand it he wasn't really in an offense with qbs to showcase his talent either.

Thats what I got off of the Locked On podcast at least.
Witten

4.65 seconds

Jake

4.73 40-yard dash

wow huge gap there LOL

I think the Cowboys were clearly intent on taking a TE in the draft. I consistently keep hearing they were interested in McBride and Kolar both of whom were taken right before there picks in the 2nd and 4th rounds.

I think the Cowboys like Schultz but see him as replaceable. He’s a good TE that doesn’t really bring anything dynamic to the table ala Kelce, Kittle, etc. IMO, they’ll let Schultz play out this season under the franchise rage with the expectation Ferguson takes over that role in 2023.

So you wanted someone drastically less athletic than Ferguson?
Woods had 25 bench reps v

Wydemyer I liked as a ufa. He's more of a flyer pick. But I like his chances. He made some great catches an big plays at a&m

Woods is the te I liked in the second round. Hes bigger and has more speed and benched 25 reps. He had a great combine. We brought him in for a 30 visit. It's hard to pass on a player that scores a Td every 5.5 passes and has NFL ypc numbers even if he is a little raw. What te coming out of college isn't.

I liked Ferguson too. He's got a big catch radius and good separation also. He's just a little smaller, slower, and only benched 15 reps. Definitely better than Schultz coming out of college. It just might take a while before he can be a starter.

The cowboys need 2 good tes. We start 2 tes every week. We prolly need 2-3 guys but we never have more than 1 good one at a time. Lol
