An early post draft, pre-training camp depth chart has been released by the Cowboys organization. For the sake of time, I’m only going to post the offense for starters. That’s where the changes are mostly. Some of it is obvious; some of it is perplexing. Frankly, I would not be surprised if several positions see changes in the chart by September.

I got this from a paid site so I can’t link it, but here is the chart for the offense:

OFFENSE- 1st team, 2nd team, 3rd team

QB- Dak Prescott. Cooper Rush, Will Grier
RB- Zeke Elliott. Tony Pollard, Ryan Nall
WR- Cedee Lamb, Noah Brown,
WR- Michael Gallup, TJ Vasher
WR- Jalen Tolbert, James Washington, Simi Fehoko
TE- Dalton Schultz, Jake Ferguson, Jeremy Sprinkles
LT- Tyron Smith, Josh Ball
LG-Tyler Smith, Connor McGovern
C- Tyler Biadsz
RG- Zack Martin, Matt Farniok
RT- Terrance Steele, Issac Alacron
K- Chris Naggar

COMMENTS:
  • I think some of this is a joke. Listing TJ Vasher as a backup? I saw the kid play his whole college career at Texas Tech and IMO, he’s not an NFL level receiver. We will see.
  • That WR group looks a little thin, especially when you realize Gallup may not be here until mid-October. I just don’t get the Noah Brown love this team has.
  • The team must not think much of Simi Fehoko.
  • Anyone confident in Josh Ball or Issac Alacron as backups?
  • It does not include any UFAs such as new K Jonathan Garribay
  • Who is Ryan Nall?
  • If we end up starting two rookies (Tyler Smith and Jake Tolbert) we will certainly go into the season with a less prepared and less experienced offense than last season.
  • This offense lost 17 years of starting NFL experience from last year.
Again, I think this chart is premature and I’m seriously doubtful it will stay this way come September.
Thoughts?
Sounds a lot like a 'go ahead and buy your Jalen Tolbert jersey' to me.

I think Noah Brown has talent and physical attributes. He just needs some playing time and confidence. EVen though he has soem drops, we SHOULD be able to use him as a possession and goal line receiver....haven;t been able to manage it...too many other weapons?

Watch his ohio state highlights. There's potential there we just haven't been able to tap.

Maybe I will run down to the pro shop at the stadium next week and see if they actually have Tolbert jerseys out.
I won't buy one, nor probably anything else. But gives me something to do.

Seen all his games for OSU, he really is good, and fans under rate him. You know how it is though, some get fixated to dislike a player and can't let go.
I guess it works the opposite way though too. Fans actually do at times over rate players, and won't let go.
But Brown needs more opportunities.

Do you think this means that there is no backup and no competition at OC?

Are you new to following the team?

Every year they have something like this which is not remotely accurate, not even for preseason games.
- It's something created by an administrative person somewhere within the building for unknown purposes.

They've already said Josh Ball would compete at RT (That probably means Swing Tackle, because RT is new to him).

Confidence:
I'm not confident in any 1 unknown player at OT.
- I'm confident that between Ball, Waldo, Alacron and Tyler Smith that somebody can manage to start at OT if needed.
- In the first 5 games of 2020, before Dak's injury, the Cowboys were leading the league in total yards and passing yards by a large margin.
- The OTs for the majority of those games were Steele and Knight.

@SteveTheCowboy

Last season during a preseason game, Moose was a guest commentator.
- Moose made the comment " I'm a fan of Noah Brown ".

I've always been a fan of Noah Brown also. He is the best blocking WR that I've seen...ever.
- He has had some highlight reel worthy blocks on NFL Safeties and even some LBs.
- He flattened the Giants SS multiple times one season.
- He totally owned a Skins LB in one game.

No, he should not play TE. Then he would just be an undersize TE.
- Yes, he would be a better blocker than Jarwin by a large margin, but that's not much of a compliment.
- Defenses tend to play base with 2 TEs in the game but play Nickel with 3 WRs.
- It is an advantage to have Brown as a blocking WR vs on run plays from 3 WR sets.

He lost about 5 pounds and got much faster at one point in time; however, he is likely to remain limited as a receiver.

His issue has always been injuries.

It’s from a paid site, so I couldn’t link it per the rules.
This early depth chart illustrates how thin we are at OL. And how often this organization pins its hopes on “best case” scenarios.
Also illustrates that paid sites don't have access to the coaching office....it's speculation on their part to keep people paying for their site.

To me, WR and RB is least of my concerns...i think anyone of those can be put there and either succeed or fail depending on the OL play and QB play. So the key is OL.....C is my most worrisome spot and then LG. Smith may be ok at LG but that leaves Biadasz to excel at his spot. Going into his third year will be big because then comes whether he deserves a second contract. I expect the team to give him every chance to remain there Hoping LIndstrom or Farniock can push him or win the position based on performance. Steele at RT with Martin next to him was good until Collins was inserted...so not too worried there.

My last purchase was a ball cap 12 years ago. My daughter gifted me with a coffee mug in 2019, but my only other investment is time spent here and watching the games…

exactly. Its early May. There's 0 way they have any new info. Even the staff cant know what the chart will be yet. Its virtually impossible. The site might be scamming fans.

Of course…No I don’t think there will be “no backups or competition at OC” (I assume you mean Center?)

And Lol, no I am not “new to following the team.” Again, I’m just sharing what Bob Sturm, the author of this article on a paid site shared. As I stated in the OP, some of this is strange stuff. You can relax.

So, is it from the Cowboys organization and Sturm just posted it? or did Sturm come up with it on his own?
Sturm I assume came up with it on his own. He writes a lot of good stuff on the Cowboys for a paid site I can’t link because of the rule regarding paid sites. If you know where Sturm writes his stuff it’s there.

My mistake for not making that clearer earlier.

And every year we hear that this is the deepest team we've had in years.

Yeah, about the same here. I bought a few mugs maybe 3 years ago. Got a few as gifts, as well as a few hats. My last hat I bought was maybe 2 years ago.
I bought probably 2 hats, 4 mugs / glasses in the past 10 years. And received other items as gifts.

I do go to the pro shop once every 6 months or so, but everything too high priced. Then they have an outlet store, at their distribution center about 15 minutes North of me, as where the Stadium is about 15 minutes South. Then they have the shops in a few malls, but I rarely go to the malls. Once every 5 years if that much. Last time I went I was bored and near the area, walked in to the pro shop, for 5 minutes and left the mall. That was a good 4 years ago.
May be time for that trip.
