Reason why they had Smith over the Green/Zion

I was listening to a podcast this weekend where Cowboys scouting, Chris Hall was on. He said that all 3 could play Guard now, but they viewed Green/Zion as future Centers, but saw Smith as the only future tackle. He says that you take the future Tackle 10 out of 10 times.

I mean…you take the better player 10 times out of 10. Not saying Smith isn’t, but give me the better player. If I have then rated the same, then give me the tackle

If all 3 reach their absolute peak, based on their physical ability:
Zion: Rodney Hudson
Green: Ron Leary
T. Smith: Prime Years Tyron Smith
I agree, Smith has a very high ceiling, could become an elite player. However, we need to be patient and understand he needs development.

What is the podcast called? Slater said the Cowboys thought Zion was the best center in the draft. Green’s athletic testing probably soured the Cowboys.
It was with Mickey Spags, I will try to find the link, excellent watch

We take a guard/center in the first round next year and we should be well on our way back to a top 5 line.
You know I’ve been hard on Biaz, but haven’t closed the door on him yet, give him another yr to see if he gets better before replacing him.

Zion looks like the prototype to play OC.
- However, he was drafted by the Chargers and they just signed (2021) OC Corey Linsley to a 5-year, 62.5M contract.
- The Chargers can get out of that contract after 2022. If cut after 2022, it would end up as a 2-year, 26M contract.

Green looks like a Ron Leary type OG to me.
Both had positional flex on the college level, but many insiders have said the NFL scouts view them as interior players

And I'll go one better. I don't really buy the T is more important than G or C philosophy unless you're talking about a blindside T, usually a LT. A subpar G or C is an enormous detriment on the field. I don't get why that holds less importance. The QB is right behind them. It's vital to be sound there.

To me it shows they aren't confident in their conviction when they have to try to rationalize why they had Smith over the other two. Jerry's done it, Stephen, McClay, now Duane Allman.

I like Tyler Smith. I feel the same way about him that I did about Travis Frederick. A little early but I really like the player. Those two guys weren't even on the board when the pick was made. So I don't get why they have to justify not making a pick that wasn't even available for them.

Cowboys fans and media will be watching all their careers especially the Iowa center the Ravens drafted.

Linderbaum will be better at his position than Smith, Green or possibly even Johnson will be at theirs.

Fantastic player.

That makes sense.
The other 2 are more plug and play.
Smith has greater potential.
We will have to ride out his learning curve
And hope Dak doesn't get killed in the process

We should all be discussing Jermaine Johnson's upcoming rookie season with the Cowboys but let's just hope Tyler Smith becomes the beast they think he will become.
It's easy not to rue passing up on J.J. Watt when you get Tyron Smith.
