CFZ How do you feel about making top rookies wear famous Cowboys jersey numbers?

Let whoever wear whatever number they want.

I'm actually curious, how do we claim to never have any retired numbers when there are numbers (8, 12, and 22) that are never to be worn again?
 
It's a cynical way to stay connected to the history of the team. I can't think of another organization that does it.

I'm speaking of the players who are taking the numbers now. Those numbers will always be linked to the players who won SB's ect. Does anyone think of Antonio Bryant when you say 88? Even if Lamb has a good career but never does anything in a big playoff game or win anything then 88 will always be linked to Pearson and Irvin first. Lamb would be an afterthought for 88. That was my point.
 
If Dallas ever drafts a QB high in the first round again, I can see them giving him an 8 or 12. Hoping it rubs off on them.

Where do you stand on this? Should young high draft picks for the Cowboys be expected to wear numbers like #88 or #73? Or should they be allowed to create their own legend? I’m in favor of letting a young kid create their own legend around whatever number they want. It would be cool to create a new legend around a different number- like 87 or 13, or 25….etc.

I don’t think any number is sacred and I also hate forcing players to wear certain historic numbers. It’s stupid. Lamb would have been a great #10.

Retiring numbers is difficult for an organization who’s had success. I think most fans still think of their favorite at any number but with 53 numbers used each year and so many really great players who’ve won SB, or in the HOF or are deserving of being
