Q: So who was the last Cowboys HC to engineer back to back playoff seasons?
A: Chan Gailey. 1998-1999.

I would have never guessed it was Chan Gailey, the only Cowboys HC who made the playoffs every single year he was HC…oops…only here two years. And he was fired after those two years.

Among the many bad habits our Cowboys need to break is its inability to have back to back playoff seasons. The last time we had back to back playoff seasons was 2006-2007. The 06 season under Parcells, 07 under Wade Phillips.

As a bonus question…
Q: Who was the last Cowboys HC to lead us to back to back division championships?

A: Barry Switzer. 1994-1995.

It’s time for this organization to stop floundering from year to year. One of the biggest questions going into this season in my mind will be whether or not we can break this cycle.

Is this because the NFL gives a stronger Sch to the divisional winners the following year ?

We can’t do it by playing the way the packers played. We don’t have the players. MM and Moore is not running the ball with power. Nothing off tackle. WR screens. We have to get Dak mobile back there. And he is going to have to take off here and there with it. Get down or out of bounds. Keep the defenses spying with a player. We need the TE in the game. It don’t seem like we plan on using TE much this year. And I wonder if Lamb is a outside #1 WR. He is a good slot guy.

A lot depends on our O-Line. Or the trenches in general. Our D-Line needs to stop the run and we need to run it. Lol. We need power running and over the top passing. Do we have someone that can take the top off. Dak can get the ball down field.

Yes the cycle will be broken. No, not the one Rowdy uses for his clown show.. Though someone needs to break it. :muttley:

I say we will make the playoffs and break that cycle, as well as the repeat of division champs.
Dallas is still the NFCE champs until they lose it.

Dallas is no better nor worse than last year. And no team on paper has improvement significantly to over take us. In spite of all the Eagles fans on here, they are better on paper, but not enough.

It is a factor. But if your team can’t repeat as division champs, it tells me you either aren’t that good or something’s wrong with the organization. Or both.

They like their players...and coaches...that is the biggest problem.

17 seasons without a repeat winner in the East is nuts and that is a streak that can carry on.

After 25+ years of not winning the division back to back, it has to be more than the schedule.
It was only a two-team difference during the 16-game schedule...but it a tight division race, fans will look at that.
17-game schedules now-- the difference is now three opponents.
Cowboys and Eagles for 2022: both play AFC South and NFC North in addition to division rivals.
But for the other three opponents___
PHL- Saints, Cardinals, Steelers
DAL - Buccaneers, Rams, Bengals

But if you’re a real contender, don’t you want to test yourselves against other contenders? I have always seen a tougher schedule as a good thing. It measures your team against the best, not the worst.

We still had some of the core group from our championship teams during 98 and 99 until Irvin was lost to an injury. Emmitt was still producing. He had over 1300 yards in both 98 and 99 with double digit TDs both seasons. That was a big reason why we made the playoffs in back to back years.

I don't think it's a coincidence that Jimmy Johnson and Bill Parcells, both disciplinarians, decided to walk away from Jerry. Those exits fall right at his feet.

Jimmy didn't walk away and Bill just plain quit.
Maybe Jerry had something to do with it, maybe he didn't. But if fans want to see it as Jerry's fault, so be it. It is their reasons as to like or dislike someone.

I really did not like Jimmy Johnson at times, but glad he was our coach. But I was not butt hurt when he decided to want to get fired though it sucked at the same time.

And to think , we could have added Randy Moss to those teams
