The last Cowboys HC to lead us to back to back playoff seasons

It was only a two-team difference during the 16-game schedule...but it a tight division race, fans will look at that.
17-game schedules now-- the difference is now three opponents.
Cowboys and Eagles for 2022: both play AFC South and NFC North in addition to division rivals.
But for the other three opponents___
PHL- Saints, Cardinals, Steelers
DAL - Buccaneers, Rams, Bengals

And even these games aren't much of a difference IMO.

Dallas has the harder schedule of course based on Division winners. But I can see NO and Arizona giving the Eagles as tough of games as we get from the Rams and Bengals.
I think we can beat TB at home. And who knows how the Steelers will be this season.
I don't see us sweeping those 3 teams, nor the Eagles sweeping their 3 teams.

But yeah, I been saying this for years, really not a huge difference in the rotation anymore for how tough a schedule really is. Especially when many teams can improve, or decline in a year now days.

But if you’re a real contender, don’t you want to test yourselves against other contenders? I have always seen a tougher schedule as a good thing. It measures your team against the best, not the worst.

It's part of the balancing the NFL builds in, just like the draft--NFL Champions get the last draft pick each round the following offseason, while the worst team record-wise gets the first pick.
Besides, the "harder schedule thing" is just based on the previous season finishes.

It is a factor. But if your team can’t repeat as division champs, it tells me you either aren’t that good or something’s wrong with the organization. Or both.

Pretty much every Cowboys fan - and the NFL world in general - can admit that injury to Romo in 2015 derailed the back-to-back for that season. Others state the same for 2017 with Elliott's suspension + Smith's injury.

Any fan of the Cowboys that tries to convince themselves we aren't on a pretty crappy 25 year run (frankly, it's historically one of the worst 25 year runs) under Jerry/Stephen's complete control needs their heads examined.

Chan Gailey had a little to do with us making the playoffs in 98 and 99. We still had some real good players who were battle tested and had been part of championships.

The NFC east has not been considered a powerhouse division for quite some time. Also with parity in the league other bottom dwellers like Cincinnati and the Rams have risen to prominence and then fallen and then resurrected back to prominence. So I feel this trend is more of a reflection of our dysfunctional organization than scheduling.

I say we will make the playoffs and break that cycle, as well as the repeat of division champs.
Dallas is still the NFCE champs until they lose it.

Dallas is no better nor worse than last year. And no team on paper has improvement significantly to over take us. In spite of all the Eagles fans on here, they are better on paper, but not enough.

Jazz, I do feel we are not quite as good as last year.
We lost several starters from last year.
We are still a good team, but I think it's gonna be a dogfight with the egirls this year for the division.

LOL, amazing how most all us fans have had to lower our expectations after what has gone on these past three decades..... PTSD... Instead of who will be the team in the way of our SB, to can we get in the playoffs two years in a row.?. Yeah, sad times indeed. I know many young fans here are from post championship seasons and so any taste of accomplishment is a great achievement to them. But a lot of us remember the glory years, and I can tell you this is totally unacceptable what Jerry has done to this once proud franchise. All just to stroke his own ego. Only thing is he can't take it with him, and he will probably not be around for the next parade.

Crazy how inept this ownership has been the last 26 years. You have to go back to Chan Gailey the last time this team made the playoffs two years in a row lol. Forget about not reaching an NFC championship game since 96 it's much worse!

I was all for bringing Chan on board, too, at the time. But most Cowboys fans never really liked him, and that played a big part in why he was only here two years. That, and the fact everyone, including the ownership, was so spoiled about winning.
