The day they drafted this guy I said I hope they put him at FS. He could be our Earl Thomas at safety...Not a big hitter, but understands the game and plays with the instinct to make a difference.

Damn I hate being right all the time.

Here we go lol. Took one game for the safety conversion. From Brown to Lewis to Chido now Bland. Can't help yourselves

Every great defense has at least one great safety. And we need a long term solution at safety. So picture number 41 at SS and number 30 at FS, for the next 7 years.

That's what I'd like to see. Bland and Bell.

I'd love a great safety. I don't see Bland as it though. And for the Bell hype he didn't do anything last night to back it up.

I've seen some pre-draft write ups that mentioned that if we drafted him, we will most likely convert him to play safety. This due to his physicality and that he plays better with his eyes to the QB than playing man. Watching him last night, they weren't wrong.

I'm just saying we heard the same about the other 3 CBS I mentioned. I don't take the talk serious

Anyone know if he's taken reps in the Kearse role? Wonder if that would be a good spot for him to get some snaps.

If he is a good CB, why put him at S?
Because it eliminates mismatches. in today's NFL safeties are often put in positions where they need to cover a player. So, if you have a safety that can't cover, then you have a defense that can be taken advantage of. Cover safeties are extremely important against pass happy teams. And the NFL is a pass Happy league.

It's like when Dallas had CB Daryl Worley. At 6'1" 215 pounds they should have put him at string safety. Just to have that cover safety on their roster. Those type of guys are always needed, IMO.

S and CB is a completely different skill set, and Bland is a pure CB.

Plus in a pass happy, CB is a far more valuable position than S. Teams around the NFL don't draft them higher, or pay them more for no reason. If you have a good CB, or a player that could become a good CB, moving him to S is very wasteful. We wasted 2 amd a half years of Byron Jones career trying to make him a S, only to have him make the Pro Bowl as soon as we switched him to his natural position
