What will the Cowboys do at offensive tackle?

Four year vets are guaranteed the full year contract if they're still on the team after the first game of the season even if they're cut at some point after that. They're only guaranteed 25% of their contract if signed after the first game of the season.

I don't buy this as a reasonable explanation for waiting to bring a guy in. We have tons of cap space and we're not talking about a budget-breaking deal. These guys don't have contracts two weeks before the season starts. They're not commanding top dollar. So if not having to guarantee the salary for the year is the hold-up, we're being cheap and putting the team at risk.

- Looking at the Cowboys history of player for player trade, I don’t expect that at all.
I believe the last time Cowboys did that a I recall was Ryan Switzer for DE Jihad Ward, ..and how did that turn out ?

- If there’s a trade for an OT, or a trade to gain future picks for one of our bubble players, it’s gonna likely be for draft picks.
And they are not gonna trade their valuable higher picks for a swing backup tackle.

- I just don’t see seven CBs on this team roster. Seven CBs and five safeties ?
Wright is a recent invested 3rd round pick (albeit reach ?) and the club (Quinn) covets his size, length and INT skills, but it’s yet to translate on the playing field.
Like Joseph, could it be they will try to find a way to stretch him for one more year ? Some players are late bloomers.

- Goodwin is easily the team’s best special teams coverage guy. And that weighs big on coaches -per Bones Fassel.
Goodwin offers no value in the team’s nickel coverage packages, I have not even seen him this preseason and heard nothing of him in camp reports.
He’s strictly a one track pony, per special teams but he rides and manages that one pony extremely well.

- Is that alone and enuff to secure a 53 roster spot for him ?

We have done player-for-player trades similar to this, such as when we traded Chavarius Ward for Parker Ehinger in 2018 when we needed OL depth. (That one didn't work out too well, either, though). I think we've got some depth at a few positions that might prove enticing to other teams.

I agree on the seven corners/five safeties. Most I can see us going is 11 total DBs. This is only Wright's second season, so it is hard to believe they would give up on him already. However, they have to cut somewhere, and I'm fairly sold that Joseph and Bland make the roster in addition to Diggs, Brown and Lewis. So it comes down to Fassel's favorite special-teamer (Goodwin) vs. Wright. I'd say at the moment they'd have to feel just as good about Wright on special teams for him to knock off Goodwin.

I'm not sure Goodwin has even played this preseason, which shows that they are either treating him like a starter or he's nursing an injury.

Maybe, it's something to keep an eye on.
