Jason Peters on one leg is better than anyone we at OT right now.
I can’t believe anybody here does not believe this. Dude is a future HOF and produced a 77 PFF grade and played 15 games last season.

Smith isn’t ready for LT, Ball and Waletzko are not ready. I am not sure how this is anything but positive and puts us back in a position to dominate the trenches

You did… and I responded that they were going to fill the spot in-house, lol.

You just never know….
If they sign Peters, I am interested what role they have in mind for him. Starter? Swing? I would have him start at LT and keep Tyler inside. In an event Peters goes down, revert to the original plan of shifting Tyler to Tackle.

Well, its a move we have to make b/c the Jones boys slept through the offseason. Tyron hasn't played a full season since 2015 (I think), yet the jones boys bet the farm on his health this year. It makes no sense. And I don't buy their BS that Tyson smith was their back-plan all along. If that was the case, he wouldn't have played exclusively at G for all of TC and the preseason. These Bozos really thought that Josh Ball or some guy named Walesko taken in round 5 were going to solve the hole at swing tackle created when they got rid of La El.

I get the view but Tyron missing a few games for his back vs him suffering a basically season ending fluke injury are a bit different.

I actually think them taking smith in the first round and having the plan for him to start at guard then eventually kick out to tackle made a lot of sense. They also must see something in both ball and Stele that gives them confidence.

the one spot they missed on was a swing tackle but for the starters the plan was pretty sound until the unexpected injury came which nobody could have foreseen.

Yes they could have been better prepared but putting a first round pick towards the line is a pretty strong off-season move so they have to get some credit for that

I didn't say that buddy, I said nobody vould have foreseen a 4 month injury requiring surgery.

Missing a few games here and there mid season for his back is expected, not tearing his hamstring off the bone

No word on a contract yet I guess.
I wouldn’t count on it happening.

I am sure it’ll be “Dallas isn’t ready to commit the $$$ right now”. Offensive line is a disaster, we start 0-3 and then the cheap front office will pay for him to try and save the season.

Even if you think he might miss the usual 3-5 games, you still have to have a competent plan B on Daks blindside. Why risk sabotaging the entire offense and your QBs health when you have a whole offseason to address the problem in a competent way? Well, the Jones boys have chosen now to address the problem and that's why we have to go sign a veteran OT the week before the season. Great plan? There was no plan. Its team management by emergency.

For what it's worth......

I mean compared to Ball, Waletzko and a banged up Tyler Smith, grading at 77 will make him look like Anthony Munoz compared to those guys. Dude held his own against Shaq Barrett last season and only allowed one pressure

The problem exist because Tyron Smith went down for the season, they drafted a LT this past draft are we to draft 2 or 3 more? Josh Ball was drafted last season as a 4th rd. I'm sorry but people love to complain about players so tell me how many LT or OL we should have drafted? We had other areas that needed to be addressed as well. Should Peter sign Cowboys I think will be in good shape.

I mean we don't have anyone at OT at this point so lets give it a try.

i hear you on the swing tackle but again, I think all signs pointed to Tyron’s back and health being good to go for the start to the season and they would start smith at guard, then when Tyron had back issues at some point kick him over to LT and insert whoever looked best to backfill.

again I think they missed on swing tackle but they didn’t just haphazardly draft the future left tackle for fun

They never intended for Tyson Smith to back-up Tyron, at least not this year. Thats why they had him at G EXCLUSIVELY for the entire training camp and preseason.

Tyron getting injured and missing games is very predictable. The man hasn't played a full season since 2015. So, its almost a given he's going to miss 4 games at least. Are we just going to punt those games away and risk Daks health betting that Ball and Walesko can fill the swing tackle position left vacant when they cut La EL? Well, that's what Jerry and son did this offseason.......... in spite of having the 3rd most cap space in the league.

Since you asked, at the very least, they should have signed a veteran OT or traded for one.....like they are trying to do now.

So let me get this right, they should get a vet since Tyron went down like they are now? lol No doubt the plan was to have Tyron starting with Smith playing Guard to start the season getting Smith acclimated to the NFL before throwing him out at tackle, I agree Tyron has missed time but again Dallas has also drafted OL players, sooner or later you got to play them. Peters will likely be brought in, I see this as a good move. What scared me was not making any move on a vet once Tyron went down. So hopefully this deal will be worked out.
