we are not only getting gashed up the middle but we have no answer to outside runs too,DQ doesnt seem to care that much stopping the run.

Commanders exposed us bad, they were running up and down the field at will. LBs were constantly out of position.

We need better edge setters, LB play, and run support from CBs is an essential (and underrated) component of good run D. Unfortunately, we don’t have physical corners and our MLB is just average.

Definitely need to work on this aspect of our defense.

This is a game Jabril Cox need to be involved in heavily. McVay is going to put Kupp on LVE all game and destroy him.

I think it will be Brown or Bland on Kupp. If Kearse is back, he will have TE coverage duty. Wilson may be the wildcard to stop the run and occasionally blitz the qb.

They had shoddy QB play, that's why they failed.

But they absolutely exposed us running the ball. It's a weakness for sure. Commanders ran for nearly 150 yards on us at 5.3 yards per carry. For comparison, the previous week, they only ran for 83 yards and 4.0 ypc against the Eagles (and that includes nearly 25 yards of scrambles by Wentz).

We have a run defense issue. Quinn is gonna have to figure out a way to scheme a run D because it's going to cost us.

Our LBs are pass rushers and play chasers. Plus, we have one of the worst DT rotations in the NFL.......been that way for years.

I don't think this true anymore. While there are no superstar DTs on this team, the rotation of Gallimore, Odigizhuwa, Bohanna and Hill have been pretty good up the middle. This defense has gotten gashed primarily on the edges. Particularly when teams have gone after Dorance Armstrong and even when they have run at Micah Parsons. Lawrence is still a beast against the run so they typically don't try him but they run away from him when he's in there and if he's not in they just have a field day. Our ends are getting creamed in the run this year and that needs to get fixed. I have not re-watched the last game but I've seen a lot of damage being done on the edges against us.. That's gotta get shored up or this will be a short trip to the playoffs for us yet again even if we get there.

49ers can run the ball. They can also stop the run.

Bad combo right there. We may get a preview in two weeks as the Eagles are both top ten in rushing O and rushing D.

Thanks for posting … giving up 5 ypc is awful. I realize numbers can be bloated due to the small sample size — but that needs to be fixed in a hurry.

It is because we are sending the house and not setting the edge. We are also sending our MLB into pass coverage to cover for OLBs or Safeties that are rushing....this leaves the middle open. When we do this, we should probably keep a DT on the line instead of sending him upfield creating a cutback lane

Bingo. We did a better job in the second half. We want to stop the rb on the way to the qb. We want that pressure. We are going to need to stuff the run this week for sure.

biggest issue was stretch plays away from Lawrence there was no outside contain....you need that to force the rb to cut back inside where your defenders are

It isn’t the DT’s man. It has been on the edges that run contain has been failing.

The DT’s have been fine.
