With each passing WR trade and free agent signing, the Amari Cooper trade becomes more absurd

Try typing in 2020 or 2019.
How is that even relevant? The Cowboys traded him right after the 2021 season. The Cowboys sold on Cooper as his value was at its lowest. Now if that was the right move to make is a different discussion, but as far as value goes the Cowboys sold a good but not great receiver on a high dollar deal at the worst possible time right before free agency started.

You wouldn't pay 2019 value today for the 2022 version of Russell Wilson

So the answer is NO then?

Chiefs get five draft picks (1st Round in 2022, 2nd Round in 2022, 4th Round in 2022, 4th Round in 2023, 6th Round in 2023).

The Raiders are sending their first two picks in the 2022 NFL Draft to the Packers in exchange for Davante Adams

Both of whom then got paid salaries that FAR EXCEEDED Amari Cooper’s contract.

So the Jones boys look like IDIOTS no matter how you slice it.

This, as my buddy use to say “use can try to rationalize and justify it all you want”, bottom line not good.

I'm not sure that people realize it but Cooper renegotiated his contract in Cleveland which he could have done in Dallas. Cooper's cap number this year is $4.9m. Bounces up a lot next year though.

The whole "Dallas couldn't afford him this year" is mind numbing bull crap. Stop believing Jerry and his idiot son.

Because it’s about a body of work, not one year. I know it’s helpful to your argument to cherry pick one bad year but it doesn’t work that way.

68 catches 865yds and 8TDs while making $20m a year

Who is giving up massive draft capital for that??

I see the galley thinks they really got something here! Ya guys, get em! You were sooooo right about this move....lol

Ya right, you guys have literally been right about 0 this offseason and this isn't any stronger of an argument for you.

Ya, Amari has produced comparable to what Ceedee has, great! We are all frustrated with Ceedee...imagine if we also had to pay him 20 mill a year?

Also, Amari has been targeted 10 times in the end zone, Ceedee, 4. He is the only option they have...he has 5 of their 6 tds to wrs.

Amari still is not game-breaking after the catch either...2.7 yac yards. That is pedestrian. Guys who get paid what he gets paid has to run after the catch people.

I think his point is that while Cooper may not be in their class, he's likely in the tier below and the gap in what those teams got and what we got is astronomical.

Jerry botched the trade. It's OK to admit it. They painted themselves into a corner as teams knew that Jerry wanted him gone. They had no flexibility or negotiating foothold here. Jerry rarely wins trades.

Oh I wont even debate that point, but that seems to be how it always goes though. Someone will pay a premium price to grab a premium asset. The 2nd/3rd tier players are more plentiful though and can be found elsewhere. If you attach a big contract to a tier 2/3 player it sinks the value considerably.

Nothing wrong with a 2020 Honda Civic, but I can find 30 of them with the click of a button and negotiate the best price. The Bugatti I'm often at the mercy of the seller though.

But in trades it absolutely does. It’s just like buying stock. Prices go up and down all the time, it’s more about timing than anything. I guarantee denver wouldn’t get their picks back for Russell Wilson at this point. We see all the time where guys get overpaid after one great year or teams get steals for guys who had a bad or injury year. I guarantee zeke doesn’t have the trade value he had a few years ago either.

Zeke also has a terrible contract. Apples to oranges.

Cooper’s body of work showed him to be a top 10 receiver. The Jones boys blabbed to the world they were dumping him so they got nothing in return.

Deal with it.

It literally does excuse it.

They had higher offers and would have to eat his cap. Taking his whole contract off the books means a lower pick. I don’t know why people don’t comprehend this

:clap:not to mention they had to make a decision by 5th day of the new league year or his $20M was guaranteed. From my understanding, several teams were interested in trading but the Browns were the only team willing to pay him his full salary ( restructured ). All other teams want him to take a pay cut.

Those guys are premiere talents. Amari is not. He’s been exposed. Nobody wants a guy who doesn’t show up in big games or road games.
