At some point the FO has to gamble and go for the SB by adding pieces. How is it Philly keeps churning through the NFL but we constantly give Jerry a pass bc we always assume you can only get burned in trades?
I agree with that….but giving up draft picks at the deadline because you were cheap in free agency isn’t good business either.

They need to stop counting on their entire draft to be able to play right away.

It’s scary how these two can’t figure that out.

I'll never understand the WR fetish by so many Cowboys fans. Every trade deadline, free agency, and draft, without fail.
The answer to the question is fantasy football.

This team needed a DT, maybe two, and the only one moved was the one we got.

… and just like that. For 24 hours, Dallas fans forgot they were 6-2 and the 2nd best team in the NFC.

… trading for a marginal WR does not put them in a better spot today than yesterday

Then why did we get rid of Cooper?

I’ve said a lot lately- it’s no coincidence that the last 3 SB winning teams all have had young, aggressive GMs. The rams Les Snead, the Bucs Jason Licht and chiefs Brett Veach are all very aggressive in FA and trades. Their “win now” approach has been very popular and successful.

IMO, the Jones FO is behind the times. They still see the cap as a huge wall to climb while the newer, younger, more successful GMs see the cap as a speed bump.

Watch the rams get back in the superbowl in the next few years. While we worry about the cap and signing our players. Jerry and Capboy just need to get out of their way and let a new GM do the job correctly.

I don’t recall mentioning Cooks name…there are many other receivers on many of the teams that could have been acquired. The Jets alone have a couple begging to get off that team and that’s just one example.

if you are happy with not making any moves while the stronger teams have all upgraded, I don’t want to change you’re mind. That’s what we’re here for. Exchange of thoughts

Elijah Moore was easy pickens for a late round pick and would have been cheap. But our FO is too smart not trade a 7th rounder...that would be bad.

Yeah we prefer mediocrity and being one and done during the playoffs. Who cares about winning the Superbowl while you can have average and cheap players.
IF YOU CANT HANDLE THE TRUTH THEN DON'T READ THIS POST.

When was the last time we traded for a player that helped us get into the Super Bowl. Was it during the salary cap era? When was the last time we picked up a high price free agent that helped us get to the Super Bowl? Was that during the salary cap era?

In the salary cap era, the Cowboys have been better at drafting than they are at trading. And that's the truth.

Well said. Our offense runs through our running game. If we were to trade for anything, we need some run stuffers. If we fail in the playoffs it won't be because of the WRs, it'll be our problems with stopping the run. JMO

Here’s some additional truth- in the last 26 years, we’re 4-11 in the playoffs. Zero divisional playoff wins. Haven’t won the NFCE in back to back years since 1995. But yeah, the drafting is better.

What no faith in McCarthy? I know McCarthy has influence in who they draft. But trades? That seems like it comes down to the same to idiots that traded for WR Roy Williams. That's why I'd rather keep the draft picks. I trust McCarthy more than the front office.

You make a good point. And I agree that sometimes no trade is better than a good trade. And I believe Big Mac is a better coach than he gets credit for. I guess I’m just hesitant to give credit to the front office after their last 26 seasons until they’ve actually done something in the playoffs.

I gotta agree. Not having a full-time dedicated GM really bites us in these spots. Jerry is not working the phones trying to create trades that improve the team......... he fields calls.

When we finally make it the championship finals, then I will give Jerry and Capboy their due. But for now, all blame points to both of them for the dysfunction they have caused.

I heard the Jets GM say he wasn’t looking to deal either him or Mims. Maybe that wasn’t entirely true but it doesn’t seem as though they were about to give either away.

That could be true. But they are in a rebuilding mode and eventually they are going to need more draft picks than players. Wilson might not be their future QB. If that's the case they are probably looking into drafting players to build around a new QB.
