Eagles own Saints 1st rd pick

Davis has been dominating against the run, But it’s still early for him… Yeah looking at Devante stats they’re not as good as what I expected… I remember the highlights of one of their games, he had like 1,000,000,000 yard receiving

DeVonta Smith has 40 catches for 442 yards and 2 td's....as the third receiving option behind Brown and Goedert....and is near as a third option as Lamb is as a #1 for Dallas (42 catches 556 yards 3 td's)

Davis has been playing very few snaps.
I love the player tbh and easily my fave Eagles draft pick of the last few years but the reason other teams let him fall was concern over how many snaps you can get him in this modern era.

Smith is just a really undersized guy. He's such a good technician but that size is scary slight for a WR1.

They have lot of dead CAP this year and more next year with more to come.
And those above are quite correct multiple players free agents and not counting those who will want more at the end of this year.

ROFL, Stop the cap.

You guys need to catch up with reality.
This is the Eagles 2023 haul.
  • First-round pick (own)
  • First-round pick (via New Orleans in 2022 draft pick trade)
  • Second-round pick (own)
  • Third-round pick (own)
  • Seventh-round pick (own)
  • Seventh-round pick (via Minnesota in Jalen Reagor trade)
They will gain an insanely good pick from the Saints to be sure. But that's really the extent of their draft capital.
End of round picks then no meat in middle of the draft at all.
If they are smart they will trade down with that Saints pick and try to make up for all the picks they traded off.
R1 picks cost you real cap dollars and lock in to be paid extremely well if extended.
Hitting on picks in round 2-5 matters a whole lot.

The Eagles deserve credit for getting a good trade worked out for Wentz but that is absolutely it.
They are on path to do to Hurts exactly what they did to Wentz and ruin him before they pay him.
When he gets that money this off-season the veteran heavy team around him will be slowly dying off.

As to the rest:
The Eagles won a SB going all in and then went 5 years without winning more than 9 games.
The cap is a mess with Jaylon Hurts current estimated market value at 44M a year. And they have to pay him THIS off-season or let him hit free agency as Dak did.
The Eagles cannot draft and have 8 starters hitting free agent for 2023.
Instead of using Hurts cheap season here to get ahead on the cap they sold out.

True, but if Philly decides against dulling out a huge contract to Hurts (who is a free agent after the 2023 season), you have teams like Houston and Detroit who both have multiple 1st round draft picks (and all are currently in the Top 15) in the 2023 draft who the Eagles could call to possibly trade Hurts to......which would result in Philly positioning themselves for a rookie QB in 2023 and the cap room (saved by not paying Hurts) to continue to build their roster).

If Philly trades a 1 it will be theirs, I think they target DE with the NO pick.
They'd be far better off with a small trade down in R1.
Moving from say 6 to 9 will likely net them more than whatever they do with a late first.

If the Eagles want to draft better it starts with collecting picks. And not having anything R4-6 is criminal.

Exactly. Over half of this message board already believes that Hurts is just average. Well he is certainly playing well above average and is in the MVP conversation. Why? One could argue that besides his own development, a lot of credit should go to his coaches and his surrounding weapons. Hurts himself was a low 2nd round pick, but could easily be dealt today for a 1st+. This is Howie in a nutshell…buy low, sell high.

I think Howie is very confident that he could draft another 2nd rounder and have that QB look a heck of a lot better than a 2nd rounder because of the roster support he has…and it’s easier to keep that solid overall roster if you’re not overpaying the QB.

Just because many other teams have fallen victim to overpaying their QB, it doesn’t make it the correct practice

Hurts is playing very well but it took them 3 years to get him to this level and he has played a terrible schedule thus far.
Eagles will extend him this off-season for massive money.
They aren't going to punt on him this quick.
The earlier you announce your rookie QBs extension the longer the cap hit can be reasonable.
Dallas botched that badly with Dak.

Yep. If they don’t win it this year……this window may be opening and closing.

Currently holding the 6th pick in the first round right now with the Saints sitting at 3-6. With the team they've assembled right now this could definitely be a case of the rich getting richer in our division.

And they own their own first round pick.

I don’t know if the word smart applies… I agree that most teams, probably all tesms, don’t trade away star qbs… But I wonder if things are going to start to shift away from that. I have heard recently the concept of graduating quarterbacks the debated by front offices
If they want to be stuck in a long cycle or mediocrity and irrelevance , they would "graduate quarterbacks"

**THIS**
Will this FO do more than just improve our roster through the draft? I doubt they make any "splash" moves in FA, but one can be optimistic and would be very surprised if they would ever pull the trigger on FAs that we all want. The Eagles are making those moves and now that draft pick from the Saints is looking better and better by the week.

Ditto here too.

I can only imagine that's how the Jones felt when the Eagles won the Super Bowl, and added a mix of front office moves to aid in their playoff-SB run.
While we did nada... while we did our usual one and done from the playoffs.

And our team strategy is still the same as it was.. as it.has been for years. Rely 100% on NFL draft, get bargain cheap vets,
and bargain profile vets Gerald McCoy, Alden Smith, Everett Griffin, Anthony Barr, Bryan Anger etc... while seldom trying to get a hit bargain late rd trade (ala Robert Quinn)

That is laughable.
whats laughable? my stance or the fact that you disagree with it? I get the jones family may not comply but weve had a easy division for awhile now. They better stay on their game or theyll be left behind

Wanting the division to be tough. Makes little sense. The Cowboys arent good this year because Philly is good. Much rather have the playoff and home field wrapped up.

So you're thinking they will trade him? That would certainly be a shocker to the NFL world if he remains in the MVP conversation or even comes close in the voting. Not saying they wouldn't do it but if he keeps things rolling like he has been this season, that would definitely be a ballsy move.

I get what he's saying. If you are playing in one of the toughest divisions, and make it to the playoffs, you have a team hardened by fire. Look at the niners last year. They were the 3rd best team in a division with 3 teams that had double digit wins and they went to the playoffs and did a lot of damage. We went 12-5 in a garbage division and went 1 and done.

It sounds nice in theory, but its not in real life. Are the Eagles battle hardened? They have the easiest schedule in the NFL.

I would rather have the Eagles as doormats and win the division and get home field advantage.

Going 1 and done had nothing to do with being a weak division.

Our GM and his son have us handcuffed

You have no idea what you are talking about. But please make a case with, like, actual numbers or something so those of us who better understand contracts can make you look silly.

I guess we'll see about Philly. Eagles could fall off. As for us last year, we were the kings of our division and got wrecked by the 3rd best team in the west. So make of it what you will. Most of us had a good feeling going in that our record was propped up by beating weak teams. Hopefully this year will be different.
