Interesting. NFL.Com doesn’t consider Tyler good enough to be considered in this list. Rookie offensive linemen who beat him include Ravens C Tyler Linderbaum (1st round, 25th pick), Panthers OT Ekim Ekwonu (1st round, 6th pick) Seahawks OT Abraham Lucas (3rd round), and Chargers OT Jamaree Salyer (6th round).

This is the mid-season ranking. FYI, Tyler was in the Top 25 first-quarter rankings but fell off for this update. Look at the Seahawks - 4 guys in the Top 25! Talk about a draft. Those guys and Geno Smith single-handedly kept Pete Carroll’s Seattle run alive. Linderbaum was my choice for OL at our pick but I don’t fault the Cowboys for selecting Smith because his positions were a much bigger need and there is no buyer’s remorse on him even if the media doesn’t consider him Top 25 anymore.

You know it’s interesting because I never really hear much about Smith. But the left tackle position is so crucial that you need a good one if you want to have good offensive line. They don’t even mention him on the telecast of games and I admit I’m not a great offensive line evaluator he hasn’t been embarrassing himself at all.

It seems like no one really wants to talk about how good or bad this offensive line is. Yet it’s been productive. I think with really no big names but Zack Martin they really don’t know how to gauge it because they all said we would suck this year yet it hasn’t happened.

Yea at first we were like oh dang we got a beast in Tyler. Then he had a respectable amount of bad plays and now were like he’s definitely gonna be very good for many years.

Tyron may give it one more shot next year but he’s basically retired.

Great selection.

Yeah I trusted our scouts on that one because I did not like the pre draft I heard about Smith. Hasn’t had the penalty issue that everyone assumed he’d have. I’ve seen him knock some grown *** men on their butt.

Same here. But like you said, they don't seem to call him out during games much which is good

Tyler has filled in admirably at LT but he’s played like a rookie. I’m surprised he didn’t make the list but he is near the top of list in sacks allowed and penalties.

I can’t wait to see him play LG where I think he can be a stud. Not sure about LT.

A lot of people in recent years have pointed to championship teams that didn’t have O-Lines that broke the bank but still performed well enough to win. Scary train of thought for me personally, but I think in a way our team accidentally built one like that this year.

I think it’s easy to forget how raw he was, no big time college ball level experience, and forced to suddenly swap positions. And we’ve seen some of the rough results with no Tyron. So we probably overrate him not because we’re homers, but as a hometown fan we can appreciate all that went into this situation. Like I put in original post, no buyers remorse. Everything I see from this kid in the media, he has a good head on his shoulders and will only improve.

A steep learning curve was expected from Tyler Smith at Guard as he needed to greatly improve his technique. When you watch him at Tulsa compared to now, he has drastically improved that area of his game. Yes, he is a better run blocker at this juncture, but nobody thought he would of held up at LT at the start of the season. It was expected that Jason Peters would take over once Tyler failed and he was ready.

I agree at this time, he could be a dominate, pro bowl level type guard, but with more reps, he will continue to get better playing the Tackle spot. Compare him to Tyron at the same stage and he is having a stronger rookie season and playing the harder position.

To complete the OL, we still have to figure out if Biaz is the long-term answer and what to do at the position where Tyler isn't playing either at Guard or Tackle. In my opinion, Steele has earned a long-term deal with his play this season. Kind of like Tyler, better run blocker and developing as a pass protector.

Yea, I think he’ll a good pro but I do think fans overrate him and we reached on him in the draft especially if his best fit is as LG.

He does seem like a good kid though so I’m pulling for him.

The John Madden approach aside, if you're not hearing much about an OL during the game, that means he's doing his job.
I think Tyler Smith has done well stepping in for Tyron Smith.
And the less we hear about Tyler, the better.

Tyron was a monster as a rookie. Made PFFs all rookie team and was the highest rookie OT they had graded in years. He was raw too, but was a much better rookie.

I feel like Biadisz has turned into an above average C.

Tyler aside, the weak links for me are LG and RT.

His season high for sacks allowed was his rookie year in 2011 with 9.5 given up. Point is, both were raw rookies that needed development.

I agree Biad has been much better this season and even McGovern has improved. However, I think both are replaceable if they decided to go in that direction. I believe both will return in 2023, but another high draft pick is used in that area. Don't see Tyler moving to Guard in that future as they would of already done that with Jason Peters. Sure, if Tyron comes back this yr, but I cannot envision him returning in 2023.

I think they did too. But I’ll say this….McCarthy was known to get a lot out of young linemen. I remember when we went out there with Steele a few years back and I was so pissed I wanted Mike fired lol. He knew what he was doing. I think we lucked into a solid line but something tells me Mike saw this coming.

Agree to an extent but Tyron was on a whole different level as a prospect. Not even close with how high his ceiling was.

Drafting an OT would be my top choice next year.
