A steep learning curve was expected from Tyler Smith at Guard as he needed to greatly improve his technique. When you watch him at Tulsa compared to now, he has drastically improved that area of his game. Yes, he is a better run blocker at this juncture, but nobody thought he would of held up at LT at the start of the season. It was expected that Jason Peters would take over once Tyler failed and he was ready.
I agree at this time, he could be a dominate, pro bowl level type guard, but with more reps, he will continue to get better playing the Tackle spot. Compare him to Tyron at the same stage and he is having a stronger rookie season and playing the harder position.
To complete the OL, we still have to figure out if Biaz is the long-term answer and what to do at the position where Tyler isn't playing either at Guard or Tackle. In my opinion, Steele has earned a long-term deal with his play this season. Kind of like Tyler, better run blocker and developing as a pass protector.
