If this actually happened the way Tolbert says it did, I'd equate it with a cop telling you to pull forward more. Regardless of the stop line, if the cop tells you to move up, you watch him as he directs you.

Yeah, you can have a piece of candy.
Kid takes the whole bucket.

When have you known a ref to tell a player to position himself offsides?

Then not to have your head turned toward the ball?

This team is so stupid.

I thought the flag was on the motion. The te in motion was clearly moving towards the LOS. I think that's considered a false start.
But it wasn't called a false start. The ref said "offsides" on tolbert

You can see exactly what happened on the vid. He's lined up way offsides, almost a full yard, not even close. Right before the snap he looks over to the official and then moves back like a foot. But he moved back so little, he was still clearly offsides.

And then a half second later, the ball is snapped. If they didn't call him for offsides, they could have called him for illegal motion.

Total bonehead move. Probably explains why he's played so little. And worse, it sounds to me like he lied to Mike about what happened, or at least didn't tell the whole truth. I would get Washington ready and sit this guy for a long while.

That was the same idiot woman ref that called the ball short in the Philly game. I honestly think she's a Philly fan ref. I hope we don't see her anytime soon again:facepalm:

Saying move up to the line doesn’t imply take 2 big steps. Sounds like excuses

Bingo. Dude was going diagonal toward the LOS. Clear as day on the broadcast. I too assumed that was the flag.

Pretty sure I saw a GB player do this as well but not as obvious as our guy & they didn't call that either.

The other question that I haven't seen asked or addressed is "Why was he in the game at that time?"

I mean the guy has barely played. Why would you trust him to be on the field during a crucial situation?

My gosh people…straight from Tolbert’s mouth:

Tolbert said he had checked with the down judge Sarah Thomas.

"I lined up, looked to the side and she told me to back up," Tolbert said. "I did."

He clearly didn’t backup enough.

Notice he didn’t say “she gave me the thumbs…she said I was good…”

Also watch the play and it looks look he checks with the ref. Can post pics in a sec

why would the ref tell him anything? makes no sense and at the end of the day, you look over and see where you are lined up.

so far he has been nothing but a disappointment.

I don't understand why the ref would tell a player where to line up. That makes no sense to me at all. Either he's lined up correctly and the play goes on, or he's not and he gets flagged. I've never heard of a ref interfering like that.

Wr's are taught to ask the sideline ref if they are lined up okay at age 10. It's most definitely a thing wide receivers do at every level.

Really? I guess I can see that at age 10, but in the NFL, I'd think it would be considered as bias to help a player avoid a penalty, or in this case cause him to draw one.

Tolbert was a horrible and wasted pick.
Many of those whining about Jerry being a bad GM, seem to wanted Tolbert…
So they are as bad as Jerry.
