There is some talk about the Dolphins may be asking him to take a pay cut or release him. Word is, he was still playing at high level before his injury.

MIAMI DOLPHINS
The time has come that we can stop asking whether cornerback Byron Jones will play for the Miami Dolphins in 2022. Head coach Mike McDaniel suggested Monday it's not likely to happen.

Jones has been on the Reserve/PUP list all season after undergoing surgery on a leg in the offseason and McDaniel has been asked at the start of pretty much every week throughout the regular season whether this was the week Jones would return.

The answer always was that Jones wasn't quite ready, but the tone changed Monday.

"I'm very happy and comfortable with the players that we've been playing with at that position all season and I'm more focused on that," McDaniel said. "And I see Byron as a bonus. I don't rule out anything, but my expectations ...that'd be an awesome addition, but I'm really not counting on it or just more focused on the guys that we do have."

Here's his contract.........

I guess that's another contract we dodged paying a huge sum of money to.

I know he's been injured this year, but I would welcome back at a reduced rate. We'll need more corners with Brown a free agent and Joseph possibly on his way out. Like all moves it'll come down to money.

is Anthony Brown still under 1?

if not and Jones is cheaper i'd take him

id actually take Jones right now because of our corner situation

For the right price, of course. Problem is good corners get paid handsomely and Jones is a really good corner. Doubt we could afford him outside of a "prove-it" contract.

Yes, we already have a ball hawk, he is an excellent shadow corner

He’s only had two INT‘s in two seasons with Miami. I’m assuming he still covers well, but I haven’t watched him since he left. Miami must not be that impressed with him if they want him to take a pay cut. I wouldn’t be interested.

Anything is possible depending on how much $ he wants. Gotta be a brown type contract

Jones is literally the antithesis of Diggs; he’s an Uber athlete with absolutely zero football instincts.
