Offseason Needs vs Reasons we Lost

Most agreed our major offseason needs were WR, OL and DT. We did almost nothing to fill these holes and I’m not surprised they were major reasons we lost.

Dak didn’t play well but Lamb had zero help, the OL created zero push in the run game and our run D got soft down the stretch towards the end of the game when we needed it most.

The worst part is the Jones will likely do nothin in FA / trades and we’ll likely count on “our guys” and draft picks to be difference makers.

Sigh.

Yes and no. We used our 1st round pick on an OL...he was better than ANYBODY expected...so they get kudos for that.

But this receiving corps was a disaster when it comes to championship level football. It was hidden against bad teams...but if you are trying to win a championship you should not assess your team against the worst the league has to offer...because that is not what you are going to get in the playoffs. Same for DT.

Yea but we 100% needed to sign a quality swing OT as Tyler was supposed to play G.

But yea, our WR as a playoff team is laughable.

FO is not smart enough to win the big ones. At the end of every season, we identify weaknesses created by FO decisions. They try to fix those and then make new mistakes and the cycle continues.

Yup…100% correct.

Add Linebacker and Tight End to that list. And please, can we get a TE that has some meat on him?

Yea, LVE had a nice year but he needs some help.

Same for Schultz but I’d let him walk due to price…would love a TE that can actually run.

WR is a huge need, especially given the QB situation.

Gallup 0 catches on 3 targets including a crucial pick. Yea he was open for a big play if not a TD, but he just doesn't get open enough. The comeback routes aren't there for him because no one is afraid of him running by them. I hated this signing in the offseason, he wasn't getting any separation last season before he got injured.

The team's obsession with Noah Brown is a bit annoying, he should have been stealing snaps from Gallup, not Ty Hilton, they desperately needed another target with speed out there.

Ty Hilton 1 target and one catch for 15 yards, not sure why they even bothered to bring him in if they weren't going to use him.

OL got pushed around at times, but I'm not sure WR or DT played much of a role in the loss. Defense gave up some runs late, but overall they played fantastic, especially on the interior. WRs ran open often. This offense struggled because OL let pressure get to Dak and Dak never settled in.

You lose Hilton, doubt he comes back. Lamb ended the debate about if he could be a #1 target. The wild card is Gallup. He now has a full offseason to rebound from his injury. My guess is the Cowboys roll the dice on him being better and then go after another James Washington type of FA pickup to compete the the bottom of the depth chart in camp.

Broderick Jones is a guy Im starting to zero in on.

Gallup has never been a great separator. He was a good 3 when we had Cooper and Lamb drawing coverage but he’s just not good enough to be a 2.
