Offseason Needs vs Reasons we Lost

Prescott was the main reason the team lost. There were other factors but Prescott couldn't make any plays despite the D carrying him. It speaks volumes that his own players dug him out after the game. Trading Cooper was always a huge mistake but in reality what difference would it have made given Prescott missed Lamb and Gallup on regulation throws for game changing plays.

Dak didn’t play well but he also didn’t have much help. Maybe the O looks a little sharper if we have a WR corp as good as Philly or SF.

Dak played poorly, but having more than 1 reliable WR option sure would’ve helped.

But if a QB is paid the big bucks the roster will be lacking in parts. Although that's why a team shouldn't pay a QB like Prescott.

No Not Really. Last year we were one and Done. This year we got the playoff monkey off our backs and won one away from Texas.

Come on tell the truth. I get being disappointed but be accurate.

Mike McCarthy has had 3 years and he has us going in the right direction. If I have to tell you what's different around here, I don't know what to say

6-10 12-5 12-5 Come on man !!!!!!
They can't get out the divisional round. 27 years. It is the same ol' bullfeces.

Sure, but there’s usually a way you can make things work with the cap. Lamb is on a rookie deal so we don’t have big money in the WR room.

They did almost pull the trigger with Cooks, heard the draft compensation was agreed upon, but they wanted to re-work his contract. This franchise has always valued the position, I fully expect either a fa or a high draft pick. No way they can go into next season, expecting Gallup to rebound. If he has another poor season, there is an out after next yr.
Another thought is could Jones be revisiting the OJ Beckham pursuit again ? .. since the offseason would give him that much more time to recuperate that ACL

The dilenma is that's two WRs (Gallup) that you dunno if it's a guaranteed that they will return to form.

Our biggest need is a legitimate young QB to either push or replace Dak. So sick of the inaccuracies, poor decision making, most of all the " I got to do better" post game talk. It's been 7 years bro, obviously you can't do better.

Here is a thought. Reduce Zekes contract extend him two more years. Sign Pollard.Trade Tyron Smith for a early 2nd rounder. This is crucial even if we uave to add in a late pick or future pick maybe add in a player. This is a small window frame to wurk with but it can be done. Sign Daron Payne out yhe gate for the Nose tackle spot. Sign Marcus Peter's or if the Rams drop Ramsey. Move forward with resigning the need players in Fa who are currently on are team but do not Pegion hole ourselves . Then BPA this thing. Try to get some youth at CB WR TE a Massive DT.

Yea, tough call. Getting out of Zekes contract should be near the top of the priority list.

Even if he takes a paycut I don’t think he helps us at all.
I agree, but let's not get out from under one bad rb contract just to get into another one. I like Pollard and don't think the injury will be detrimental but I also don't want to see them give him a Elliott type deal either.

Post all the threads you like, it's good for the site, but I'm long past expecting these two self-appointed clowns to build a champion. A divisional round game is their apex.

Most agreed our major offseason needs were WR, OL and DT. We did almost nothing to fill these holes and I’m not surprised they were major reasons we lost.

Dak didn’t play well but Lamb had zero help, the OL created zero push in the run game and our run D got soft down the stretch towards the end of the game when we needed it most.

The worst part is the Jones will likely do nothin in FA / trades and we’ll likely count on “our guys” and draft picks to be difference makers.

Sigh.

No doubt we need to address some of these areas but I wouldn't say any of those were the major reasons we lost. For me, we would have won if Dak just drove the bus instead of throwing 2 interceptions, you simply can't win if your QB is missing easy reads and is gifting points to the opposition.

That’s why I’d prefer tagging Pollard.

Yes, agree Dak played poorly. Would he have played as poorly if he had a good number 2 or another weapon where he didn’t feel the need to try and force some throws? Does a quality NT help limit the 90 drive where the 49ers ran it down our throat?

I think so.

Totally disagree with "done nuthin' at OL. "

- We drafted rookie Tyler Smith and he's gonna be a real gem and cornerstone for us, imo.

- Tyler had his technical flaws, and if he hit his rookie wall, he really worked thru it.
Was super durable, did not miss a game per injury.

- He displayed incredible country strong natural strength and power (and he'll only get even more stronger per offseason program)
And he has a relentless nasty streak that he exerts on opposing defenders. that he pancakes to the ground.

- Baby Erik Williams Jr. ..?

WR is a huge need, especially given the QB situation.

Gallup 0 catches on 3 targets including a crucial pick. Yea he was open for a big play if not a TD, but he just doesn't get open enough. The comeback routes aren't there for him because no one is afraid of him running by them. I hated this signing in the offseason, he wasn't getting any separation last season before he got injured.

The team's obsession with Noah Brown is a bit annoying, he should have been stealing snaps from Gallup, not Ty Hilton, they desperately needed another target with speed out there.

Ty Hilton 1 target and one catch for 15 yards, not sure why they even bothered to bring him in if they weren't going to use him.

Speed and separation skills is what i really think this team is gonna try to target.
Little wonder they brought in T Y Hilton for this cause.

As well as pursue the likes of OJ Beckham and Houston Texans' WR Brandin Cooks.

Why are we talking about the off season already. The Cowboy's finest are preparing for their 27th consecutive Pro Bowl appearance! I'm excited, any predictions?

Yes, we did draft Tyler but again we were forced to draft need bc we did nothing in FA.

Tyler filled in admirably for Tyron this year and was durable but he has a looong way to go if he wants to stick at OT. Hope he continues to develop and grow.

These two are why I refuse to believe anything the organization has to say. The Cowboys have the worlds best PR and they are in the job of selling hope. I don't expect next season to be any different. They will draft and then do nothing to improve the overall team and just keep going. It's like they are waiting for that one season where every other team in the NFL is injured and they get to waltz away with the prize.

Gallup has never been a great separator. He was a good 3 when we had Cooper and Lamb drawing coverage but he’s just not good enough to be a 2.
Agreed. A lot of times, he was getting the weaker of the 2 opposing boundary CBs. Teams were clearly more focused on Cooper, lamb and in some cases even Schultz last season.

At OL, who was there in this FA period that Stephen would have to dish out a monster contract to ?
Only one in thought was Terron Armstead who signed on with Miami (from Saints) and the team was not gonna replace Tyron altogether. much less
give Armstead a big contract.

- I'd give Cowboys big credit for carefully evaluating Tyler onto their draft board value to select him and scheme planning him into the OL mix.
Start him out at LG, beside Tyron,.. and eventually move him out to permanent LT once Tyron's career is done.

- And i admit that I myself was not initially on board with selecting Tyler Smith (who ?) with our first round pick. as i was more in favor of
drafting either Florida State DE Jermaine Johnson (Jets) or Utah LB Devin Lloyd (Jax Jaguars)

" Looong " way ? ..Meh,.. that would indicate more so a project ...and i don't think Tyler falls into that area and i don't think he is that distant far away.
