You are 100% right. I have been posting for years saying that Jerry does not care about Super Bowls. I have had people angrily disagree and call me crazy, not only on this board but in real life. The Emperor has no clothes. Jerry will never let this team bottom out or rebuild. His golden goose is the brand of the Cowboys. Anywhere between 8-10 wins is ok in his book. This allows them to be on ESPN, FS1, all the talking heads love the Cowboys. How many times was the season finale flexed to Sunday night from 2010-2016? Eagles, Giants, Washington. As long as this team is in the spotlight he is a happy camper.Do Dumb & Dumber feel any shame looking at our rival lap us like this?
When the Eagles win on Sunday, that will be 2 Super Bowls since 2018 after swapping out coaches, QB, players, offensive/defensive systems.
It will be 3 Super Bowl appearances, 7 Conference Title appearances, 16 playoff wins for the Eagles since the last time the Cowboys got out of the divisional round. My God how do these two bumbling idiots not feel any shame?!
Jerry is ok paying Romo, Zeke, Tank, Dak, whoever. The franchise makes more money, profit than any in the league. We have not done squat in 28 years.
He is not a big spender, he has never gone all out to win a title. I cant even remember the last huge FA signing this team had, forget a trade. Jerry and Stephen run this team like a mom and pop store. It's their money at some level but I really think the commish needs to step in and say, guys take your 9-10 billion and walk away. This team is the face of the league. It needs to be glamourous on the fields as well as all the surroundings.
If Jerry wanted to really win a SB, which is the crux of my argument..... ( He does not care). There is no salary cap on coaches, front office, analytics department.
The truth is he is stuck in a catch-22. He fired Jimmy in 1994 at an owners meeting saying, I could get 500 coaches to take this team to a Super Bowl. That year he hired the most inept coach in league history. They eventually won the title in 95, and they were screaming.. we did it, we did it.
The first 10 years of Jerry running the Cowboys post Jimmy were very hectic, I still remember guys like Mort, Kiper, etc would roll their eyes the media would question why he is the GM. They had terrible drafts, horrific trades. The bottom was reached when we lost to the Texans in their inaugural game. Jerry broke down and hired Parcells. He stuck around for 3 years, brought some sanity to the organization, we found Romo who was a really good QB.
The thing is now days the media, fanbase, local DFW media all have accepted Jerry as a competent GM. At some level he has found a way to stay afloat. He is generally a very good drafter. ( I am not all negative). Bill Walsh had a saying, there are really only 5-7 teams trying to win a SB every year. Dallas generally isn't one of them.
A winning organization is trying improve on multiple fronts, Drafting, Scouting, Free agency, coaching, Culture.. Of course Culture is the most important foundation. That is a whole two page post I cannot get into.
Going back to catch-22, if Jerry hired a real Gm tomorrow and within two years we are in a SB because this roster is very close, all the accolades would go this individual. Everyone would celebrate but then ask why didnt you do this 25 years ago? You basically threw away a quarter century for your ego. Jerry cannot be vindicated unless he gets to a SB his way. That is the crux of the problem. He can only win one way, cut your nose off despite your face.
As an owner he is satisfied, he has three rings since 1989. I think only Kraft has more rings over that time frame. Denver has three SB wins since that time, the Steelers have two, GB has two. He is a HOF'r, he has the golden goose of the league, they will never lose money. This is not the late 80's.
We as Cowboys fans are stuck. Dak, Romo, Zeke, Pollard, Zack Martin, Smith. The talent has been there over the years. Any big game over the past 27 years I have never been confident in our coaching. From 90-93, those 4 years Jimmy was always better than the other guy. Whether it was Parcells, Gibbs, Seifert, Levy, Shanahan , Bill B.
He was the alpha in the league.
