Jimmy Johnson in his book "Swagger," in order to win SB, you need a great QB not a good one

After 7 years with Dak, I hold Jimmy's philosophy to be true. Dak will never get us to a SB, let alone win us one.

So, our fans aren't looking at a SB for another 4 or more years? Ugh

Thats ideal. But then you see Ripen, Williams, Dilfer, Flacco, Brad Johnson. If you want to be in the mix every year you need the great ones.

NFL history shows that isn't true. Having a great QB makes it easier to win Super Bowls, but teams have done it with great teams and quarterbacks on Dak's level. You have to be elite somewhere, such as having a great defense like Baltimore did with Dilfer, Tampa Bay did with Brad Johnson, etc. Coaching matters as well. Some teams can scheme around a QB's weaknesses and emphasize their strengths.

Parcells just said he is plenty good enough to win one with.

Blames the playcaller.

Where have I heard that before?????

I disagree with Jimmy. You most certainly don’t need a great QB to win one.

Jimmy won titles when there wasn’t a salary cap.

You just can’t pay a non-elite QB like they’re elite and win.

I don't see Aikman as a a great QB. He was a good QB on an exceptionally good team. Had he been on a bottom dweller, he would not have ever made it to the SB.

There's been QBs that haven't been great that have won Super Bowls though.

The problem is having a not great QB that believes he's great.

That's where the trouble starts and that's what we have in Dak.
We really didn't need a great QB this past Sunday night. Just one to make enough plays and not blow the game like our guy did. A good QB would have been good enough. Unfortunately we have a bad one.

He must think Dak is great qb since he said we can win a SB with him. :muttley:

that theory has been disproven multiple times

but you do need a qb that doesnt throw it directly to the other team.......

Dak was flat out awful last sunday, it wasnt even good plays by the defense he was throwing the ball RIGHT to them, those interceptions looked like he was contractually obligated to throw them

nahhh

u can win with a “good” qb as long as u pay them like a good qb and not a franchise qb

now the cowboys are paying a avg/above avg qb at best 20% of the salary cap so it is what it is

And they takes a FO that knows one when they see it and figures how to get one.

Jimmy said recently that Dak can win a Super Bowl but must have a better running game
