The Cowboys Have Plenty to Think About This Offseason—but Not Their QB

Interesting that it only mentions 2023. Most everyone agree's or acknowledges he'll still be here in 2023, it doesnt advocate keeping him in 2024.

It mentions the chance to restructure $22m. If that works out as still giving a possible saving of $27m (a post June 1st cut in 2024), but accepting Void payments of $25m in (2025) and $10m Void (2026) then that's a decent compromise.

It doesn’t matter how well Prescott plays going forward; the only way he’s going to end this talk is by winning playoff games
Very long blah blah blah article but they finally got to the only thing that really matters in the last paragraph.

Everything that happens in the regular season doesn't matter. Dak's fate will be determined by what happens in the playoffs.

It would be nice if that were actually true.

But here are getting ready to head to Dak's 8th year and he's been nothing but rewarded for being a loser.

I agree almost entirely. But take the stats and shove them sideways. I'm sick of hearing about stats that amount to nothing.

Here's the money quote. From the article.

"Like all quarterbacks though, Dak needs players around him who can contribute. And contrary to popular belief, the team around him in 2022 wasn’t all that good."
Dak is good enough, the Cowboys are never good enough. If we had Patrick Mahomes or Aaron Rodgers, yeah, you can be conservative in the offseason. But we don't have a first ballot hall of famer at QB. Dallas has to support their quarterback similar to how the Eagles and Dolphins support theirs. Two QBs that aren't all that. But the GMs recognized what they needed to be successful. Had Tua not had injury problems, that Dolphins team would have been dangerous. And Tua isn't all that good.

Jerry needs to wake the frick up and see what other teams are doing to have success with less than elite, but good quarterbacks. Stop putting all of the blame in the QB. For those not old enough, I heard this exact crap about John Elway back in the 80s. He can't win the big one. Some of the old timers in here can confirm. John Elway had zero chance in those super bowls. Jesus Christ could have been quarterback and unless he used some of his miracles, he wasn't winning with Denver either.

20%+ CAP hits for a QB does tend to restrict the rest of the roster.

The best thing for Dallas Cowboys immediate future would be Dak being so horrible that they can't justify keeping him.

That is the only path to real success for the Cowboys.
Wasn't Dak just that very horrible thing in 2022 and the 2023 playoff loss to SF????

Yet here dumb and dumber are talking about extending Dak and having him here another 10 years.

This franchise is a circus tent and fans are growing very tired of seeing the same acts every year.

If you want Dak here for 10 years you're not a Cowboys fan.

It's really that simple.

The Cowboys need Dak to be so horrible from here on out that it can't be ignored to save them from themselves and doubling down on a mistake.

I want Dak gone now but Jerry allowed himself to get bent over with the contract and here he has a chance to say to Dak to prove it in 2023 as I am not restructuring the deal and will cut your arse if you fail in 2023.

Clearly the nucleus of Dak, Zeke, Tyron Smith, and DLaw have failed to elevate this team to the NFCCG or beyond and it's time to move on from all of them.

This team needs to crap its pants next season. I worry though that even with a top 3 pick. Jerry still wouldnt draft a QB and hurt Daks feelings.

I envy teams with decisive general managers that actually have to win to maintain their job title.

Absolutely. We have zero chance at winning anything with Dak at a 20% cap hit. Anyone thinking otherwise is in my opinion delusional. The Chiefs have a chance to win the SB with Mahomes at around 17%. But he's a game changer. This is something Rodgers wasn't able to do.

I have been told on this forum numerous times that Dak's contract is not prohibitive comparable to other QB's. Team has plenty of cap room to build a good roster around him. And it will seem like a deal once the TV money and the cap goes up.

For many it's more about Dak's piss poor play combined with the contract.

I'm with you.

If Dak has to be horrible to save this team from itself then so be it.

Well they're wrong. In 2023 and 2024 Dak's over taking 20% of the CAP and that's including the large TV money which boosts the allowance in 2024.
To put into context Brady hasn't taken over 13% of the CAP.
QB's over 30, with large CAP hits aren't conducive to building a SB roster.
