TE is a bigger need then many realize!

Which is telling to how terrible our group of offensive weapons were…
Yes, our skilled positional players were really lacking outside of Lamb, Pollard and Shultz. Cannot see all three gone, but definitely one.

None of the draft eligible TEs doesn't move the needle for me when it comes to creating mismatches. I do like Washington's blocking ability but I don't want to use a high draft pick to obtain the kid.

I feel like Dallas can get a quality tight end in Free Agency via Irv Smith Jr. Hayden Hurst, Austin Hooper, or go really cheap with a Jordan Akins, OJ Howard

Like TB, I just have some sort of mental block when it comes to using a 1st round pick on a TE.

But I could see them jumping on Mayer if he was there at 26.

Mayer is the only one I feel is worthy to take in the first rd and I see him more as a top 15 prospect. Many compare him to Andrews from the Ravens. Think him being there at 26, would get me as excited as Robinson falling as well. However, don't see either falling.

There's only been 1 TE drafted in round 1 past 3 years and Pitts isn't even really a tight end. Mayer will 100 percent be there unless he has a crazy combine

I have seen him as high as a top 15 pick, so there is an outside chance, but I wouldn’t say likely.

Those mocks don't mean anything bro.

I just looked at a kipper mock from March 22nd last year. He had Matt Corral at 32. These teams don't go off expert boards. Again, unless he has a elite combine he will be there. I'd bet alot on that

The guy for me at TE is Dalton Kincaid!. Dallas has only 2 Playmakers at RB n WR, while most ppl are focused on WR a explosive TE is just as good or better in some cases. If you go watch Kincaid you'll see he can run Shultz route tree very well and he adds more versatility in the passing game. A fluid, athletic playmaking TE is what QB1 needs to help him out.

I trust Tony Pauline/Dane the most and they both have him as an early 20's selection. Draft Network/Draft Buzz which are popular have him even higher. Point is, it's unlikely not likely he makes it to 26.

One day yall will trust guru over the experts :)

Shultz was our #2 option in the passing game, they are going to need to upgrade their receivers, which includes Shultz. Think it's even more important, if they shift you more of a running/play action team.
He had 57 receptions this season........who are we replacing those with?

Watched some TE tape tonight.

Dalton Kincaid is a flat-out stud. He is an unbelievably fluid mover and is truly a TE that runs like a WR. On top of that, he is smart and knows how to pick holes in zones, and just plucks the ball easily with natural hands. He kind of sucks as a blocker, but you're not drafting him to block. Kincaid is basically the spread offense "big slot" WR that was really en vogue last decade, and frankly, he looks a lot like Mark Andrews. Dude is a first rounder all day. I doubt he breaks the top 15 due to positional value, but he shouldn't last long after that.

Darnell Washington offers legitimate sixth OL level blocking. Georgia pulled him like crazy and he just annihilated people. If he goes to the 49ers and their extreme pull-heavy run scheme, they will win 10 Super Bowls and I am being dead serious. His receiving game is pretty basic, and his offense doesn't ask him to do much besides just run to the end zone and be 6'7" 270. But he moves well enough to make me think he could catch a few balls in the pros.

Washington is a rare talent at TE. Few college guys come into the league ready to block, even fewer of them are 270 lbs, and even fewer of them can run well. He is worth a 1st round pick to the right offense.

I'm going to withhold judgement on Michael Mayer for now. I watched 3 tapes of his: vs Ohio State, USC, and Virginia. The OSU tape was pretty rough... I was coming off of Kincaid's film, and Mayer looked like he was running in cement by comparison. He pretty much caught nothing but dumpoffs and looks really mediocre as a run blocker. But in the other two cutups, he straight-up looked a step faster and was bodying dudes in line. Then I noticed that both tapes were both from 2021.

I will say, that Mayer's volume stat line looks near identical to Kincaid's, and he put up big numbers 2 years in a row. So I am guessing the talent he showed last season didn't go away.

First off, I recently read that PFF projected Shultz to get 14.5 annually on the open market, if that's the case he has played his last game with the team. Shultz was Dak's security blanket and had a productive season, but if he's the team's #2 passing option we are in trouble. Reading the tea leaves, the Cowboys really want to fix their run game this offseason, having a strong TE is necessary, as he will be seeing a lot of passes off playaction and be expected to block in-line. Ferguson is similar to Shultz, although a better blocker, the depth behind him is unproven.

It wouldn't surprise me to see a high TE drafted, even as high as rd 1. All the scouting experts, claim this is an excellent draft for the position:

-Michael Mayer Notre Dame-elite option and a run to the podium prospect.
-Darnell Washington Georgia-similar Mercedes Lewis/Marty B, better blocker then a receiver
-Dalton Kincaid Utah-more of a oversized receiver, but very good in that department
-Luke Mustgrave Oregon State-highly athletic prospect
-Sam LaPorta Iowa-comes from a university known for producing high-level TE prospects

There are several more.
Late round sleeper . . . Brenton Strange.

Eh, I think they’re basing that on the agent trying to get Kittle/Kelce/ Goedert type money during negotiations last year. Even the most ambitious agent now has to realize that isn’t going to happen. Thinking his average is closer to 10, 11 at most. No one in their right mind believes he’s on the same level as those mentioned!

Still at 10 million a season, that's way too high for an average TE, which I think Shultz is. Think Ferguson can be as good with some development and is a better blocker, but I want to add a better weapon then an average player here.

Note, ND had a QB problem pretty much all year. They were really limited at times as the starter got hurt early and Pyne was just blah.
