The League Needs a Rule Around the Scrum

Imagine having a big strong QB who was willing to use his legs to physically dominate a football game. Must be nice.

The Eagles are abusing this and it is a cheat code, imo. When you can't stop a team from. 3 yards away because the ball carrier is being carried by 3 guys, it is a problem. I am so sick of watching it. The Eagles lose many games if they are not able to do this bull....

They were hard enough to stop in 2017 with their sneaks...now it is ridiculous level.

What type of rules should be put in place to mitigate this football travesty? I am thinking something like, "No more than one player can push a ball carrier on a given play".

Here is an article on it that talks about how the league changed the rule in 2005...

Totally agree. I'm not sure exactly how to regulate, but this isn't rubgy.

As soon as some injury results from it, they’ll make an adjustment of some kind. Ironically, that injury could end up being an injury to the ball carrier with all that weight on him.

Maybe say no more than 1 player is allowed to push on a sneak. And / or make that formation illegal.

As we get a RB being pushed by several players downfield. So is that still going to be allowed?

A team gains an advantage and we're looking for the ref to make it illegal? Weak sauce.

Nothing stopping us from taking advantage of it as well, except we probably cant do it.

Exactly, there's nothing stopping any team from doing this, but the fact is not every QB is built to do this. It's funny that some Cowboys fans are complaining about this, Dak has the perfect build for it

You want them to change rules fast. Get you DL to jump over the pile and land on the OL’s back a few time. That’s how you stop that crap and get it out of the game.

If the Eagles are getting away with something then the league is saying everyone can do this. If you aren't smart enough to do it too then that's your fault, not the league's. They don't need to change any rules so you can catch up.

Whatever. We pushed and dragged Zeke plenty of times. No rule needed.

i mean if you aren't allowed to carry and pull a runner to advance him not sure why pushing them especially with like a bunch of guys would be in the same spirit of the aforementioned rule

I think it's dumb to allow a bunch of linemen push their own players forward, but to be fair Dallas has also benefitting from it. All teams do.

But I will say that the last thing the league needs is more rules for part-time refs to judge.

That's kind of what football is. Finding a way to take advantage of your opponent. The opponent countering. Then back and forth.

That's the chess game.
I get what you are saying but plenty of rules are created to get rid of situational exploits.
Formations have rules for a reason. Not being allowed to pull the ball carrier but being allowed to push.
By your logic why have any rules? The rules are designed to avoid the glitches for the sake of safety, entertainment and fairness.

Once rules get exploited they change them.

This pushing thing has been exploited now.

They will make a rule change.

It shortens the game producing less drives per 60 minutes when teams constantly convert 4th downs with ease, 3rd downs become a nightmare to defend and most of the league (poor /mediocre teams) will play 4 down ball control, reducing big plays and having star QBs sitting on the sidelines for long periods. It will water down the league. If they leave it in place many more teams will put it to use this coming year.

In my opinion the push/scrum will be eliminated this off season.

We’re seeing it more and more where ball carriers are getting pushed and even pulled forward by their teammates. I would expect the league to look into it.

if you want them to stop, just keep hitting hurts high instead of trying to win the leverage battle.

He'll get the yards, but they'll probably stop

1. It's football.
2. Just because the division rival has success doing it doesn't mean that it should be outlawed.
3. You put your QB at risk. He could take a nasty shot to the head in the pile or his hand could be tangled up. It's not like it's a safe play, but it's one you feel fine running when your salary cap commitment at the position is like $1M vs. $50M.
4. By all means lets put more rules in that will result in more punts and other Jason Garrett style spineless decisions. That drives fan interest (insert clapping here)!

Hurts squats like 400lbs, I think that also helps
