The League Needs a Rule Around the Scrum

My way to stop it would be in the regular season, with the game not on the line have a backup safety or linebacker try to time the snap polamalu style and hit him in the head with a running start. If he doesn’t time it right? Oh well, just hit him anyways. NFL will change the rule real quick when Hurts is wobbling to the sideline from getting hit by an offsides player.

Might not be good sportsmanship but if I can’t stop a play in the NFL I’m going to find a way to make it so costly they stop it, like the option going partially out of style from getting RG3 killed.

weve used it to. We just dont get in that situation as much as the eagles. well be 3rd and short and take a sack or do a double reverse. Im ok with that you want to stop it get tougher

The Eagles are abusing this and it is a cheat code, imo. When you can't stop a team from. 3 yards away because the ball carrier is being carried by 3 guys, it is a problem. I am so sick of watching it. The Eagles lose many games if they are not able to do this bull....

They were hard enough to stop in 2017 with their sneaks...now it is ridiculous level.

What type of rules should be put in place to mitigate this football travesty? I am thinking something like, "No more than one player can push a ball carrier on a given play".

well of his 90% there are times he needs that push as well. my point is i dont mind the play its on the defense to stop it.

You can push a ball carrier forward, but you cannot pull him or carry him. I am okay with pushing him. You see that at the end of runs all the time. I do think they need to call a penalty when guys in front pull the runner forward. You don't see that as much but you do see it.

I am sure the league loves the scrum. It benefits the offense, leads to more scoring and the league loves more scoring.

And btw, it makes your DTs more important. Something Jerry needs to accept.

The defenses have a natural disadvantage in this situation because if they bunch up enough weight to stop the push then the offenses will start to shift and throw the ball instead. It just feels off.

They already do and replay is available for spotting the ball. No reason the play couldn't be reviewed to determine where forward progress is stopped.

You all know what the NFL & the refs are waiting on to happen.

Dallas does it to win a divisional game to get to the NFCCG or even the SB. Dallas does it for the win, and the refs will say they blew the whistle saying the ball was not ready for play.
Then they will change the rule on the spot such as they did the Dez catch. And say that play is illegal.

Or ...... because a sweat drop from a Dallas OL was actually considered a false start. 10 second run off, game over. Dallas loses.

laughable. Only for the Eagles does something laughable like that work. They are THAT good up front and with Hurts at QB. Those things dont work with most other QB's or without that Oline.

Maybe coaches don’t go for 4th and short in their own end with the game still undecided as often as they do if the rule were different.

But, as a few have said, nothing is getting changed until a face of the league gets hurt because of it.

The owners meetings/competition committee sham, they discuss nothing unless it affects the bottom line.
