Creating a case for TE at 26 - Kincaid

Of which 1st round TE’s haven’t shown themselves to be a valuable part.

Hence my point.
If they were in this years draft Kelce, Andrews, Kittle, Goedert, Gronk etc would likely all be 1st rounders with the change in offensive philosophy.

Kincaid is not some generational talent so unless Jake Ferguson is hurt this offseason, there is no case to draft Kincaid at 26th. It'll be a waste of resources that could be used elsewhere in my opinion.

Ferguson might not have the stats last year due to lack of opportunities with playing behind Schultz but the kid has impressed me thus far when his number was called in games. Ferguson started 8 games and had some of us on CZ saying Dalton who? during his absence and happy we didn't sign Schultz to a big contract.

When Dak did looked his way, Ferguson moved the chains. I'm not saying Ferguson is going to be the next Gronk but Travis Kelce who is a elite TE himself is giving Ferguson praises now. It funny how quick most are to cast off guys for the next unknown.

Im not on board with this

Im not taking a TE just because the QB failed last year in the playoffs

TEs take time to develop and make an impact.
I’m not going to get into a QB debate, but I’d disagree a TE has a steep learning curve especially considering how we’d be using him.

He’s a move TE that we wouldn’t be asking to block much. Similar to Engram - who had 700+ yards and 6 TDs his rookie year.

I’m talking about reality, not revisionist history.

Meanwhile, in reality, guys like David Njoku, or Kyle Pitts are the actual 1st round picks.

Pitts year 1 put up 68/1026 - that's pretty big numbers for a rookie TE.
Last year was horrible QB play, injuries and just overall a bad team.

Those are great year 1 numbers.

He was taken 4th overall. Bit different than in the 20's.
Over guys like Surtain, Parsons, Smith, Chase, Waddle.

Noah Fant put up athletic numbers at the combine. 4.5 40, 39.5" vert, 4.22 shuttle and taken in the late first.

Yet, his stats are roughly the same as Schultz, worse YPc than Schultz, a guy everyone thinks is replaceable.

I get the reasoning to bring in a more athletic TE, but I just don't see a huge difference between Kincaid, and someone like LaPorta(day 2)

Pitts had 1000 yards in his rookie season playing for a bottom feeder in the NFC with awful QB play. Njoku also played with a bust QB that’s bounced around the NFL.

Not sure this helps your argument.

Here was a quote from Jerry on his bus:

“When I look at the way Kansas City operates with that tight end (seven-time All-Pro Travis Kelce). They’ve got a lot of juice on that team in a lot of spots, but boy, that one right there is a difference-maker.”

Fant was more of a traits pick though so not sure that’s a good comp. Never should gotten drafted in the 1st.

Kincaid is a way, way cleaner prospect as an actual receiving TE.

It’s a good question but I’d argue the game has changed so much the last decade or so to almost requiring teams to have a dynamic passing attack to have a chance.
This is a very odd year, with so many undersized receivers. The TE is far better and will be pushed up due to the quality of the receiver position. Usually you see TE's come off the board in rd 2. Now, this TE class is better then we have seen over the last several years, where there might be 3-4 legitimate 1st rd prospects, which is extremely rare. Cowboys might get a chance to pick the one they like the most and could very well be sitting on top of their draft board.

Yea, I mean I don’t think this dude as Kelce but I’ve seen Ertz as a comp. We need guys that can create mismatches and finish. Aka not drop balls in the endzone and tip passes to opposing DBs.

I think he can be that dude. Again, I’d want to see a lot of other stuff happen and see us shore up WR2 before the draft but there def is a scenario where I could like this pick.

For sure, spot on.

Facts help my argument. As well as your attempts at revisionist history. Those also help my argument.

The fact is that 1st round TE’s have proven to not be worth the investment.

1000 yards as a rookie seems good, but I guess we have different standards.
