While I still have not taken a side in this case, Irvin's diatribe was disgusting, not to mention irrelevant to this entire mess.
I am calling foul on his lawyer for that. I've never seen him do that even when others on sports TV were taking that direction.

I would bet Irvin heard from some family and friends about that being brought into this situation and may wish he hadn't taken that route.

But, and it is just my opinion here, I think he regrets that call in to 105.3 more than anything else. And if this goes that far, the jury will hear that replay more than once.

I also find Marriott's actions in this matter highly questionable. IMO, this could've been handled much much better.
That's my issue as well. I do not fault them for trying to protect their employee or themselves, but they did that by requiring Irivin to leave the hotel. Everything beyond that was a choice to insert themselves in the process.

I understand why they tried to not provide details to Irvin and his lawyer, but the fact they immediately showed the video to the NFL representative right after the alleged incident happened really paints them in a bad light should anything the employee is claiming turn out to be inaccurate.

Unless I have read incorrectly, Irvin was WOKE UP IN THE MIDDLE OF THE NIGHT and asked to leave the hotel. Nothing in what you just posted refutes that. The investigator showed up the next day... Irvin was long gone already.
Yeah, sure. You might want to work on those reading skills. I'll post it again:

Marriott contends in its motion that, the day after the incident, the NFL “sent its investigator to the Hotel and asked if the Victim was willing to speak with her.” The unnamed Marriott employee agreed to the interview, repeating her version of the interaction with Irvin.

“The NFL investigator then asked to review the video and the Hotel allowed her to do so,” Marriott’s lawyers wrote. “Following her review of the video, the NFL investigator escalated the matter and additional NFL personnel quickly arrived at the Hotel.”

Marriott’s lawyers contend that, from this point forward, the NFL took over the situation, culminating in Irvin being removed from the hotel.

let irvin...ing come up to some of you guys' wives or daughters and talk crap to them. Oh," it's okay, the playmaker is wanting to smash my wife, dang I hope I can get his autograph after he smashes them." "I hope he comes back later looking for them!"
Sounds like you'd be even more terrified of your wife/daughter saying yes.

That's a "you" issue.

I haven’t been able to keep up with this story and I know there’s been several very long threads on it.

Can someone who has been keeping up with this do me a solid and post a cliff notes version for folks like me?

Also, do we actually know what exactly Irvin is being accused of at this point?

dirty trash talker mike saw a pretty girl working in a hotel and came over and talked some dirty **** to her. He put his hand on her and told her he would find her later. She reported it to her manager. Marriot reported it to the NFL. The NFL sent a woman over and read the complaint and watched the video and summoned some more personnel over to move his dirty mouth to another hotel. dirty trash talker mike got a lawyer, but he was already telling people on a radio show he didn't remember what he said because he had been out drinking and was "hiding" out.

.

dirty mike worshipers got triggered because the dirty playmaker got in trouble for being a pos. shrugs.

oh you are going to see that video, because Mike's attorney's are going to release it. There must be something to it????? You do understand the climate we live in, yes? Companies want zero issues, zero negativity surrounding them. They are an act now ask questions later type of business when it comes to protecting their name.
well supposedly the judge ruled they had to give a copy of vid to irvin, so where is it?? Should be out by now.
Unless it shows something they dont want seen by public, or there was a stipulation that they cant show it publicly lol.

I dont know, someone is lying, could be either side or both.
We are all curious and want to see it and judge it, but really it isnt any of our business.
We are not the ones who will decide the fate of irvin or marriot etc, and it really has no effect on us either way.

This is all "dirty laundry" remember that song? Media loves this stuff and so do some of us here lol.

I am just waiting for the draft to arrive, at least that is about football.

crap is king, and when we are done we havent told you a thing !
I posted the lyrics version.

@Staubacher posted Marriott's reporting procedures a while back and here they are below.

"A violation of Marriott’s Harassment Prevention policy is grounds for disciplinary action up to and including termination. Hotels may remove and ban a guest for conduct that is
offensive or abusive to or poses risk to the safety of associates, including sexual harassment.
In addition, managers who fail to promptly address complaints of harassment from their associates are subject to discipline. As demonstrated by Marriott’s Harassment Prevention Policy, the BIL system, and the No Room for Harassment message, Marriott strongly encourages all associates to immediately report any harassment, discrimination, or retaliation they may experience or observe. This applies equally to sexual harassment by an associate, supervisor, manager, guest, vendor, client, or customer."

"Marriott policy requires a prompt and thorough investigation of all sexual harassment complaints. Sexual harassment complaints and investigations are, to the extent possible, strictly
confidential. Information concerning sexual harassment complaints and investigations is shared internally or externally only with persons who have a legitimate need to know."

Well, there you have it. Marriotts policy is in place to remove or ban a guest. And the right to share info with employer if on company assignment.
Thanks

It's unbelievable just how much the media has devolved since that song was published. As bad as it was when Henley wrote that song.... it's a hundred times worse now.

On the other hand they are only....

On the other hand they are only....

If it bleeds it leads has been the so called news organizations mantra for many decades

That kind of mentality will get worse and worse

They pander to a small percentage of their viewers, and the rest watch fascinated by the carnage

So in the end you are right with this qualifier:
they are giving ENOUGH people what they want to make money

What isn’t clear to me is Marriott’s reporting of this to the NFL.

Did they just notify them they were moving Irvin and that set the wheels in motion or did they call to report his behavior?

They were moving him yet he was still at the hotel when the investigator showed up.

Been reading through these threads and was wondering how many of the posters have had the privilege of raising daughters. Based on most of these posts, I’m guessing not many.

Good question . It would appear it was one and the same . They notified them of his removal and why.

I can’t imagine notifying them without cause .

They said they did their own investigation, determined they wanted him to leave but then told the NFL, let them do their investigation and left it to the NFL to handle getting word to Irvin and taking care of moving him out. This is implied in their filing, not outright said.

The question I have is what of Mike's claim that he was asked to move, was asked if he talked to someone on the way in Sunday night, he said he didn't, and then "they" said he did and there was video of him doing so but he wasn't showed a video. Mike made it seem like the hotel said this to him but was it the NFL? According to Marriott, when the NFL went to him they had seen a video already.

So this could have been Marriott saying, "these are our wishes (to have him leave)" and then let the NFL handle telling Mike "we're moving you" which could have been what Mike was referring to in that radio interview.

Why move him? Why not just go ahead and send him home?

I don’t know the limitations of the investigator but she did call in more NFL personnel and then they moved him. I assume she could not order him to move? And was Irvin resisting the move?

Certainly is a different timeline and procedure than first reported. The NFL, and not the NFLN, seems a lot more involved.

From the outside looking in, it sure seems like the NFL bought more of her story than Irvin’s, if he even had a story to tell them. If he used what he did on the radio call in, he didn’t leave them any choice.

you might want to work on your reading skills.... NOTHING in that states the NFL escorted Irvin out of the hotel. It clearly says it was the next day. Says she ESCALATED the matter... what the hell does that mean? My reading skils are just fine..... and that is actually part of the problem. Dont you remember Irvin saying he went to bed and was later woke up and told to get his stuff? He was questioning what was going on??? That was that night... NFL investigator didnt get involved until the next day.

I always said when coaching that if I didnt knwo the rulebook better than the umpires my life would have been much easier. Ignorance is bliss,..... as the saying goes.

Sorry, you'll have to read all the threads. It'll help if you have a case of insomnia as you go at it. Lol.

As for your last question, check out this link and then go to Page 3 of that embedded PDF. That is what Marriott accuses Irvin of.

Thanks for that - I was hoping for cliff notes too. If that's what the video shows then why so difficult to release the video? I mean the story seems straightforward and pretty confirmable by a video. Obviously with no sound you could not confirm exactly what was said but I would think you would have a good idea if her story was believable.

Escalating the matter means she moved it up the chain of command ladder. I think her power has strict limitations.

Now, just who those NFL people are isn’t clear and may never be unless they get sued.

The name of their game is protect the shield at all costs. Especially when all of the owners are in town for the biggest week of the season.

lol.......wow.
It obviously means she got people up the chain higher than she was invovled, but what did they do?

And again, she "Escalated," things the NEXT DAY. Irvin was removed from the hotel the night of the INCIDENT.

Not sure why they didn't send him home but perhaps they were trying to salvage something with Marriott to not let this get out any further. Just a guess.

The investigator is just an investigator I'm thinking. It probably wasn't in her job description to handle company employee lodging logistics so that's why she called for "other personnel" to do that work. After reading the filing again, Marriott does expressly say that the NFL is the one that told Irvin he had to leave the property and not them.

Not sure if it was the NFL buying her story or not wanting to make a raucous about it and as discretely as possible, just getting him out of there to keep the hotel happy while they assessed the risk of having him on air and this incident getting out. What the NFL and Irvin talked about is another missing piece of information. If what Irvin said on the radio was really to the NFL folks and not the hotel, he didn't remember and then they told him there was video because they had seen it. But by then the hotel had made up their mind and I think the NFL just wanted it over with so they weren't going to challenge the wishes of the hotel at that point. As I said before, they could have thought it wasn't all that bad but just wanted to prevent further potential trouble and getting him out of there was the best way forward at that time.
