New Cap space after releases and restructures?

Believe after you account for the dead money, that $33.7M becomes $27.9M:

$22.8M (current cap space) + $10.9M (post June cap savings from cutting Zeke) - $5.8M (dead money hit from cutting Zeke)

I don't think that is correct. If not cut, Zeke was going to count over 16 mil. We will have 33.7 mil.

No,, it is $33.7 million after June 1st. The whole point of making him a June 1st cut was to take the cap hits in the future. We save 10.9 million on the cap by cutting him June 1st. The dead money is already calculated into the figures. He was set to count $16.7 million against the cap. So if you take our current cap number of $22.8 million and remove Zeke’s entire cap number of $16.7 then we have cap space of $39.5 million. However, we have to adjust for the dead cap space of $5.8 million which drops our cap room from $39.5 million to $33.7 million.

Assuming Spotrac is correct, the Cowboys now have $26.5M in cap space after the Tyron Smith restructure and will get another $10.9M after 6/1 when Zeke's 2023 salary goes away.

The post 6/1 savings will give them room to operate during the season or roll into next year. The draft class is expected to cost them $5.7M in cap space (less than the $8.5M in total salary due to the rule of 51). They have plenty of space to do what they want with regards to free agents and/or trades and to extend some of their own (probably only Diggs this year of the big $ guys) as well. Most likely they won't use it all and will roll some into next year. But who knows, Jerry may lock Stephen in a closet and "make it rain"

That's true, but it's net cheaper to get it done now. Plus you don't get stuck with Diggs on the tag and Lamb on a $19.7 million option next year.

Just saying, no other team stresses the contracts in the future. 26+ million is more than we’ve had in a long long time. Zekes contract falls off after next season and essentially Dak and Tank (which is manageable) are the only dud contracts left.

They like going into the season with a decent chunk for in season deals. So the question is do they spend big on a guy or try to carry some over
I expect 3-4 more guys signed though most will be cheaper
I think they want a WR but OBJ is living in fantasy land and they may wait for him to come back to reality

Interesting. I read another explanation of the regulation and it said that you look at the previous year games played multipled by the incentives per game this year and that sets a cap number for cap compliance in that given year. If that player then plays less games in the season, the cap difference is then added to the 2024 cap. If he plays in more than what he played the previous year, then the Cowboys will have to account for that on their 2023 cap.

Devils advocates to your point and two reasons you don’t.

1) Like Zeke, injuries start to add up, you pay and he stops producing.

2) You pay now, his contract doesn’t kick in until after his rookie ends. He goes out and has a 1,500 yard season and 10+ TDs. Guess who feels underpaid?
