Agreed. Most mocks have 5-6 OL coming off the board before Dallas selection. Me personally not drafting the 6-7 rated OL when other players ranked top 1-2 at other positions available.
I don't think Will McClay is that clueless
Uhhhh what if the 6th OL is better prospect than the 2nd best TE or RB?Most mocks have 5-6 OL coming off the board before Dallas selection. Me personally not drafting the 6-7 rated OL when other players ranked top 1-2 at other positions available.

Very unlikely as the team never sits a 1st rd pick, as the starting lineup is already set. With the signing of Gilmore (insane value), I believe OL (OG) now has the highest chance of being the 1st round selection. You can make a case for WR, TE, RB, DT, but I think OL is the highest probability
While you can theoretically make do with what you have at OL, or even resign Peters, that is a suspect OL that 1 injury away from yikes. Tyler Smith is far from proven, Martin is aging, Tyron is Mr Glass, and Biadasz is just ok.
WR may be construed as more of a need, but the draft has deep talent, plenty of FAs out there, you still have Tolbert that might surprise you.
Unless someone falls they don't expect or they fall in love with Schmitz as their future Center, don't see them taking an OL at 26.I think you have the possible first round positions right. They could go WR, TE, RB, OL, or DL at pick 26 and be ok no matter which position they take.
With just one pickup of a solid-to-good WR in free agency, the team has done a hell of a job of putting themselves in the position of taking BPA at whichever one of they think are best. It really is an excellent job by Dallas. Gilmore was a grand slam homer.
I can see a situation where any of those guys are the pick, just depending on how it falls. This is exactly how it is supposed to be done and how you keep your drafts among the best in the league.
- A guy like Kincaid, if he is there would do a lot to open up the defense… if not then Dallas is fine with Ferguson / Hendershot.
- Want Robinson or Gibbs, if one of them are there? Go for it. Otherwise, pick a good RB in the mid-rounds and roll.
- Zay Flowers or JSN? That’d be great. They would keep the WR pipeline flowing with talented guys.
- Decide that Schmitz is just too talented and tough to pass on? Hell yeah, bring on that guy to play LG now and move to C next year when Biadasz is a free agent.
- I don’t really see a great candidate for DL at 26, but if they decide that Adetomiwa Adebawore is just too talented to pass up as an edge / 3-tech pass rusher, I’d definitely be onboard with that. He is insanely physically gifted.
Thank you Colts! That trade opened up the draft big-time for the Cowboys.
Leary, Steele, Free and Biadasz. I mean with Tyron, Martin and to an extent Fred we’ve had mostly the same o-line for a while just filling in a couple of positions…which they’ve done pretty well. Of course it’s always a plus to have a very strong o-line, but I can’t think of the last year the Cowboys o-line was the downfall of the teamYou make a fair point but I ask, how many of our later rd o-line picks have been any where near that good, or even panned out for us in the last 10-20 years?
Possible.. But I've seen Dallas hellbent at drafting a certain position early in 2017 and ended up with a soft Taco (6th DE) taking in the first roundUhhhh what if the 6th OL is better prospect than the 2nd best TE or RB?
If he can play G as well..... I wouldn't mind an upgrade at C. It all depends on how Cowboys see him.Unless someone falls they don't expect or they fall in love with Schmitz as their future Center, don't see them taking an OL at 26.
I doubt they want to replace him as he was named a pro bowl alternate last season. If he can play G as well..... I wouldn't mind an upgrade at C. It all depends on how Cowboys see him.
For me, it would have to be Schmitz or nobody at 26. I don’t really like Torrence and while I like Avila, he is more of a second round guy.Unless someone falls they don't expect or they fall in love with Schmitz as their future Center, don't see them taking an OL at 26.
I agree, think Avilia/Torrence are similar players and more 2nd rd prospects. Broderick Jones, is the other lineman I would take, but he is expected to go in the top 15.For me, it would have to be Schmitz or nobody at 26. I don’t really like Torrence and while I like Avila, he is more of a second round guy.
But yeah, it isn’t looking like OL in the first.
I get some of the sentiment. I love a good OL. With that said, unless BPA is a guy who will start on the OL, I wouldn't spend any more high level assets on it. You have plenty of $$$$ tied into it, and will be adding more with Tyler.Leary, Steele, Free and Biadasz. I mean with Tyron, Martin and to an extent Fred we’ve had mostly the same o-line for a while just filling in a couple of positions…which they’ve done pretty well. I know but Pro Bowl is pretty meaningless. Just look at the QBs playing in them.I doubt they want to replace him as he was named a pro bowl alternate last season.
I agree with you, but I just cannot see them making the pick with the intention of benching Biaz.I know but Pro Bowl is pretty meaningless. Just look at the QBs playing in them.
A great C would take an OL over the top. C can literally cut the D front in half. Underrated position.
It's makes more sense on day 2 to me. If Steele really is ready by camp, then any OL we draft isnt starting. I dont see them drafting a backup interior lineman in the first. 2nd or 3rd maybe. They did it recently with McGovernAs of right now we still have holes at WR, DT, LG, LB, and arguably TE. Not sure how LG is the obvious need over any other position
i dont think so.i wont be surprised if they bring in a guy in Fa to play LG.I agree with you, but I just cannot see them making the pick with the intention of benching Biaz.
Could be post draft if they were unable to land a high pick at the position.i dont think so.i wont be surprised if they bring in a guy in Fa to play LG.
100% Guard is the biggest need on this team both short term and long term. With the signing of Gilmore (insane value), I believe OL (OG) now has the highest chance of being the 1st round selection. You can make a case for WR, TE, RB, DT, but I think OL is the highest probability
