What's the market then? - the top 3 in FA got the franchise tag. Sanders and Montgomery got 6 mill per year. Jacobs and Barkely may be a bit ahead of Pollard but not much in value to the team. So, it's in my guess 3 yrs for 24-25 million for Pollard or give him the tag. Maybe he declined that. Big difference from salary cap perspective but I am not sure its a big difference long term.
I think this is spot on. Market value for a 1 year commitment on pollard probably is the tag number or very close to it. You’re always going to pay a little more to not get locked into a multi year deal and for RBs I think that’s the right call imo.

They should offer him this in negotiations:

Reasonable deal for 3 years with no more than $15M total guaranteed, knowing they have already stuck themselves for $10M. Dallas will sign/draft another back to platoon.

or....

Play on the franchise tag and be prepared for 350+ touches and you can become a free agent next in full worn down DeMarco Murray condition.
The problem...is the injury.

The tag is insurance for Jerry. He's willing to bet 10 million.

Should have rescinded it - no one’s paying him more than 5/6 million.

With how the running back market has played out, Pollard did the smart thing and locked that money in now. If they rescinded the tag, he wouldn't come close to getting 10M this year. Once again, this front office cannot read the market when it comes to the running back position.
Hard to say since there is no RB like him on the market but the most recent comparison is CMC and he got a deal similar

Yessir, lock in that money TP. Cowboys FO should be trying to negotiate a multi year deal, and more 3 yrs of Pollard in the backfield should be solid.

Offer him 3 years @ $8-$9 million per year. That’s more than fair after seeing what RBs are getting on the market. If he rejects it, let him play on the tag. If he lights it up, you can always tag him again in 2024 and then let him walk.

Y’all are weird. The top of the RB market will get 8-10M+. Barkley and Jacobs ain’t signing for 5/6M y’all are delusional.

Based on every single metric last year Pollard was a top 5 back. He’s quite literally getting market value for one year, maybe an M or two more.

So weird to cry over 2M for a guy who’s clearly far and away the most explosive player on the team with much fewer carries than a 4 year starter. Without Pollard we are much less explosive and threatening as an offense.

Those of you who think you’re paying out of your own pocket get a freakin grip sheesh.

It's so funny to me that this forum was ALL about Pollard last season, calling him our best weapon. Now so many are hating that we retained him. lol

I know, I know....it's the price. Sometimes you have to do crazy things to keep the player(s) you want.
